j a,. .. ratings. February brought the culmination of a number of weeks of preparation by seven Sth and 6th graders who had the honor of performing at the Cordier Auditorium on the campus of Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana. This elite group took part in the "Circle The State With Song” experience, also sponsored by ISSMA. The "Circle The State With Song" choir is a select group of performers who, under the direction of a fine area guest conductor, perform a repertoire of musical pieces which extend beyond the limits of some small school music programs. Musical
selections included "Bist Du Bei Mir”, a German piece by J. S. Bach, "Sing a Jubilant Song”, "Shake The Papaya Down”, a calypso, "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel”, "Dodi Li”, an Israeli song, and a song written especially for the "Circle The State With Song” event, "Piper’s Song”. This event is so called due to the fact that the same repertoire is performed in nine different districts of the state, thus circling the state with song. The choir performing in North Manchester numbered approximately 4501 March is "Music In Our School” month, as is celebrated by the Music Educator’s National Conference (MENC). The first week of March is designated "Music In Our School’s Week”, during which North Liberty students are treated at the start of each day to a bit of music played over the school public address system. Each day Mrs. VanDuyne chooses music varying in style or medium. A short informative message of the piece’s origin or history is shared and the music is enjoyed by all. On Thursday, March 2, the entire 70 member Sth and 6th grade choir participated in the World’s Largest Concert”. As its name indicates, this concert is performed with a guest conductor directing a prepared program which is broadcast via satellite to PBS stations across the nation I We send the number of people we have participating to the MENC headquarters where the numbers are tallied. This year, approximately 4.5 million singers took part in MENC’s "World’s Largest Concert”. In April, the North Liberty choir took some time to have a fun outing at the Plymouth Skating Palace where we had a blast! Currently, some of our North Liberty Elementary School performers are prepared to perform at the upcoming Tri Kappa Art Show, and we still have our Spring choir performance to look forward to in May. A special thank you goes to the North Liberty P.T.A. who has continued its support of the fine arts by
