Historical Society To Have ‘‘Victory In Europe” Display “Remembering V-E Day, 1945,” an exhibit of loaned items from area residents will open May 1 at the Professional Officenter, 612 Roosevelt Road by the Walkerton Historical Society. Mr. Richard Parker, CPA. has offered the use of his business window for the display. During the World War 11 war years, music was played and sung quite frequently to bolster the morale of both the military and the civilians at home. Song sheets of the era will be displayed. Several local veterans, having served in the European Theatre of war, have collected memorabilia of German helmet, bayonet, medals, German, French and Belguim paper money bills, etc., which is being loaned for this exhibit. Servicemen either mailed or personally gave to family members, items for their war placements. Some of these have, also, been loaned. War ration stamps, certificates, war-time cook book are but a few other items to be seen. The United States Armed Forces newspaper, “The Stars & Stripes" was received by many service men and women, giving the young men and women the latest war news. One local veteran has loaned a copy of the paper telling of D-Day invasion and concludes with a group picture of this local man and others, holding a copy of “The Stars & Sripes” with VICTORY as the headline banner. This is a partial list of artifacts that will be shown for the two week period. Perhaps the public can take a few minutes to observe, reminisce, and say a special “Thank I JOHNSON INS.
