The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. School Corporation, the service she has provided the students and the John Glenn Community is greatly appreciated. The John Glenn School Corporation is fortunate to have dedicated teachers such as Mrs. Ringenberg and Mr. Waller who is also retiring after 40 years of teaching. 2. Appointments a. Approve Appointment of Carole Alspaugh as North Liberty Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher. Effective August 21, 1995 b. Approve Appointment of Greg Gratner as Custodian at John Glenn High School Tom McCormick made motion, seconded by Ben Smith, to approve the appointments as listed. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 3. Approve the Following Changes in Staffing for the 199596 School Year: a. Increase Sth Grade at North Liberty from Two to Three Sections b. Increase 6th Grade at Walkerton Elementary from Three to Four Sections c. Eliminate One-Half Computer Teaching Position and Employ a Full-Time Computer Aids at North Liberty d. Reduce Prime Time Teaching Aide Positions from Three to One at North Liberty A motion was made by Janice Ryan, seconded by Tom McCormick, to approve the recommended changes in staffing at Walkerton Elementary and North Liberty as listed. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote.
4. First Reading of John Glenn School Board Mission Statement A committee consisting of Board members David Gensingcr. Robert Schaeffer and Brent Kaufman, principal at North Liberty Elementary, presented to the School Board a new mission statement wi, reads as follows: “The John Glenn School Corporation accepts the responsibility to create an educational environment that will challenge, inspire, encourage and support its constituents toward the pursuit of excellence in an everchanging world. The corporation will provide a student-centered academic atmosphere which will encourage a lifelong learning experience.” The mission statement was developed with input from all board members and administrators. Following expression of appreciation for the committee’s work, Rob Keck made a motion, seconded by Robert Schaeffer, to approve the first reading of the John Glenn School Board Mission Statement. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 5. Review Bids on Urey Middle School Addition and Renovation and John Glenn High School Improvements . Kari Vilamaa, school architect, ' reviewed the bids received today on the John Glenn High School project. Seven bids were received with the low bid from Oselka Construction Company for $1,126,396. The low bid exceeded the projected cost for the project by $177,396 dollars. Thirty bids were received for eight different contracts for the addition and renovation to Urey Middle School. The total of all low bids was $6,947,118. The amount exceeded the project budget by approximately $1,250. Mr. Wilamaa will be discussing the bids with the contractors to determine the reason for the bids exceeding the projected project cost and recommend a meeting with the School Board to discuss possible alternatives that would reduce the overall cost of the project. Conference Reports The School Board was presented with a list of conferences approved and reports on conferences attended. NEXT MEETING DATE The Board of School Trustees will meet in special session on Wednesday, April 26, 1995 at 7:30 p.m. in the John Glenn High School library for the purpose of reviewing the bids on the Urey Middle School and John Glenn High School projects with the architect. The next regular meeting of the School Board will be on May 2, 1995 at 7:30 p.m. in John Glenn High School., ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 8:32 p.m. ATTENTION: VOLLEYBALL TEAMS WANTED Any volleyball teams out there? WALKERTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO GIVE ATHLETIC PHYSICALS This year the Walkerton Elementary School Athletic Department will be giving physical examinations to students who are interested.
