at the next School Board meeting. REPORTS 1. Superintendent's Report a. Byrkit High School Alternative Program It was reported to the School Board that 47 students from participating school corporations are enrolled at Byrkit High. Forty of the students are involved in paid employment positions or internships. Five computers are being used to assist with the instructional program and in the near future, on-line services will be available to the students. The staff now consists of Christine Simon as Director; Cindy Bakley, English Teacher and Employment Relations Counselor; and Tim Braunsdorf as Science Teacher. Overall, things are off to a very good start in the first semester at Byrkit High.. b. Review of 1995-96 Staffing Needs Due to increasing enrollments, it will be necessary for the School Board to consider increasing the number of sixth grade sections at Walkerton Elementary from three to four for the 1995-96 school year and at North Liberty the fifth grade being increased from two to three sections. Other staff changes being considered for 1995-96 school year are a reduction in the resource teachers at Walkerton Elementary from 2.3 to two teachers and at North Liberty the elimination of a help-time computer teacher and the employment of a full-time computer aide. At Urey Middle School, increase the Media Specialist position from .5 to .8 in 1995-96 and the possible employment of a study hall aide at John Glenn High School to release teachers from supervision to duties in order to provide additional sections of classes for increasing enrollments. John Glenn High School enrollment is expected to increase from 521 students to 606 students in the next two years. The School Board was also presented information on the increasing enrollment in band at John Glenn High School and the impact that this is having on the band room. The School administration is studying ways to remodel the band room in order to provide additional seating for students. The School Board also looked at the impact that the creation of additional sections at North Liberty will have on the facilities and were made aware of the need for addi-
tional classrooms at Walkerton Elementary and potentially at John Glenn High School to meet the increasing enrollment needs during the next few years. The superintendent reviewed with the School Board the revised design in the collection of storm water at Urey Middle School. The new design calls for surface drainage of the east parking lot to a collection point on the northeast side of the parking lot. The water would then be diverted off-site through a storm sewer to Pine Creek. The superintendent informed the School Board that St. Joseph County had revised assessed values for 1994. payable in 1995, and the revisions resulted in an increase in assessed value for John Glenn School Corporation of $690,544. 2.
