Seconded by Gene Reese. Carried. President Rizek said that she has been asked about spring clean up and about the pick up of yard debris. She asked Jeff Zehner to consider the possibility of combining the spring pick up of old appliances with a program of the pick up of yard debris. Zehner replied that the fall leaf pick up takes about six weeks using about 25 to 50 percent of our work force. Rizek said that she was thinking of just a week long program, and added that she thought it would make the town look a lot better and help a lot of people who cannot get their granches and other yard debris out to the utility barn. Zehner asked for the Council’s approval to gravel an alley that is unimproved and grassy. A resident on one side of the alley has repeatedly gotten stuck in the alley. It is a platted alley and a public thoroughfare. The Council was concerned that improving the alley might mean there would be more traffic. Zehner replied that he has talked to the homeowners on either side, and the improvements are agreeable to both of them. Gene Reese made the motion to
allow. Seconded by Gordon Hartsell. Carried. Zehner had three quotes for new drag lines to clean the sewer lines. The old set is estimated to be 40 to 50 years old, and one machine was broken last year and cannot be repaired. The quotes were: Flex-Rod Sewer Equipment Company — $19,878.25, J. F. McDermott Company — $20,500.00 and Sreco Flexible — $21,171.00. Len Jaske made the motin to accept Flex-Rod’s quote. Seconded by Gene Reese. Carried. There was no Citizen’s input. Attorney Holmes suggested that Sobieralski contact Matt Hassel, in Bremen, for information concerning the “DARE” program.
