SERVICES NEWS WALKERTON On Monday Harold and Hazel Schweder took care of the books and program. “This Gal Is RazorSharp.” A cute girl was giving a manicure to a man in the barber* shop. The man said, “How about a date later?” She said, “I’m married.” “So call up your husband and tell him you’re going to visit a girlfriend.” She said, “You tell him yourself — he’ll be shaving you when the manicure is over.” On Tuesday Morris Searfoss told us a joke and then we sat around and talked. Morris led us in the Pledge of Alligence and then the Lord’s Prayer. On Wednesday Florence Seekings and Sam Madonna were here, played the guitar and sang for us. We have such a good time when they come. Mildred McKesson led us in prayer. Thursday we had a cholesterol screening for everyone over 60 years old. Morris Searfoss gave the prayer. Friday we had our regular sing-a-long with Virginia Anhold leading the singing and Verice Walz at the piano. Dates to remember: On the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, Florence Seekings and Sam Madonna will be here.
Attention: Aspiring Authors Os John Glenn It is time to register young authors in the John Glenn School Corporation for the Marshall County Reading Council’s Young Authors Confernce. This special event will be held at Triton Elementary on Saturday morning, April 22nd. Students will have an opportunity to meet Jerry Pallotta. Mr. Pallotta's beautifully illustrated informational books on dinosaurs, oceans, bugs, and animals appeal to students at all grade levels. This is the first year a nonfiction author has appeared. Students will need to take a story, poem, or report they have authored at school, or at home, to share with a small group of students from other schools. While students are in story sharing sessions, parents will hear a speaker give ideas on helping children write at home. A storyteller will entertain, and of course adults and parents will listen to Mr. Pallotta speak about creating books. Registrations are due by April 7th. The registration fee is $2.00 for students. Parents may attend free of charge. This year a bus is being offered to take students and any interested parents to Triton. It is important that registrations be completed quickly to learn if a bus is really needed. Five of Mr. Pallotta’s books are being offered for preconference sale for $5.00, this is $2.00 off the newstand price for these paperbacks. Registration forms and/or booksale order blanks may be requested from your child’s teacher, school office, or elementary library. BRYAN VERKLER SCORES A FRIST IN SHOT PUT Bryan Verkier, a freshman at Vincennes University, combined with Matt Mumaw, of Cedar Lake, to win first place in the shot put relay in the Wabash College Relays at Crawfordsville.
