IRMA RASMUSSEN Irma E. Rasmussen, 83, of 206 - Carolina Street, Walkerton, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday in Michiana Community Hospital, South Bend, following an illness. Mrs. Rasmussen was bom June 12, 1911, in Walkerton, and was a lifelong resident. On January 24, 1948, in Nappanee, as Irma E. Winner, she married Chester Rasmussen, who preceded her in death. She was a retired teacher and a librarian in South Bend. Surviving are two nieces, Patricia Shaffer of Walkerton and Leigh High of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and two nephews, Stephen Burch of Japan, and Daniel Denaut of Plymouth. She was a Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War 11. She was a member of the Walkerton American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 189 and Walkerton United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. NusbaumElkin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walkerton Library or the Walkerton United Methodist Church. VERNON H. HANSON Vernon H. “Vern” Hansen, 62, of 69455 LaPorte Trail, Walkerton, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after an illness. He was bora April 21,1932, in Chesterfield, Missouri, coming to this area in 1970 from St. Louis. On June 30, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas, he married Shirley Lee Guittar, who survives. Mr. Hanson was a mechanical engineer. Also surviving are three daughters, Debra Hanson of Plymouth, Rebecca Singleton of North Liberty. and Suzan Keck of Teegarden; a son, Timothy P. of San Jose, California; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Hanson was a Navy veteran of World War 11. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Walkerton Masonic Lodge 619. A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the church. Cremation has taken place. The Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. ELLA REMUS Ella (Patterson) Remus, 70, of 10913 E. Tippecanoe Drive, Walkerton (Koontz Lake), died at 6:05 a.m. Friday in Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, after an illness. She was bora March 30, 1924, in Cheboygan, Michigan. On November 6, 1980, in Portage, Indiana, she married William H. Remus, who survives. Mrs. Remus was a bookkeeper and accountant. Also surviving are three daughters, Marva Ella Patterson of Walkerton, Peg Fengya Bruszewski of Westville and Shirley Niles of Grand Rapids; two sons, Paul Patterson of North Liberty and Bryan Patterson of Walkerton; nine grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. Two sons, John and Michael, preceded her in death. Mrs. Remus was a member of the First Assembly of God, Walkerton, past president of the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs, Walkerton, secretary of Starke County Republican Center and a former precinct committeeman of Portage Township. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Burial was in the Grovertown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association. MARVIN LERCH Marvin Lerch, 85, of 6800 E. County Road 300 N, Grovertown, died at 1:48 a.m. Thursday in the LaPorte Hospital after an illness. He was bora November 22,1909, in Grovertown. On April 8, 1934, in Knox, he married Eva Brown, who survives. Mr. Lerch was a retired farmer. Also surviving are a daughter, Loretta Meadows of Grovertown; a son, Errol of Grovertown; three grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. He was a member of the Blissville Church of the Brethren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Burial was in Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. DOROTHY V. KINNER Dorothy V. Kinner, 69, of 100 Center High Rise, Mishawaka, died Sunday in her home after an illness. She was bora August 15, 1925, in South Bend. On September 1, 1943, in South Bend, as Dorothy V. Hess, she married Carol L. Kinner, who died January 27, 1959. Mrs. Kinner was employed by the Master Belt Co. for 20 years as a machinist. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Houser, of North Liberty; two sons, John A. of Granger, and Lon D. of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; her stepmother, Maxine Hess of Kala-

Nelson, 94, of Hamilton Grove Retirement Center, New Carlisle, formerly of Grovertown, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday in the retirment center. He was bora April 15, 1900 in Grovertown and was a resident for most of his life. In November, 1930, he married Ethel Swanson, who died February 21, 1993. Mr. Nelson was a retired farmer. Surviving are a son, John, of Colgate, Wisconsin; and two grandchildren. Mr. Nelson was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Donaldson. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Donaldson. Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
