LG. Drama Club o Present “Time Jut For Ginger’’ Down ... set... showtime! The hn Glenn Drama Club goes for a uchdown as they present the medy, “Time Out For Ginger’’ i Friday, April 7 and Saturday, pril 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the high hool auditorium. “Time Out For Ginger’’ by Rond Alexander is the story of Ginger irol, a high school freshman who :sires nothing more than the lance to try out for the varsity otball team. From the moment le announces her intention, the ittle lines of opposition and ipport are clear. Opposing her Kcision are her sisters, Joan and Kannie; her principal, Mr. Wilson; ■sr father’s boss, Mr. Hoffman; Ke “big man on campus,’’ Eddie; Kid her own boyfriend Tommy. Support for Ginger is given by the Kmily housekeeper, Liz; her mother, Agnes; and her father, Howard. | In the midst of it all are subplots urrounding the security of Howrd’s job, Jeannie’s performance in ie school musical, and Ginger’s elationship with Tommy. The cast includes Ted Church, dickey Bowen, Chris Mattix, Kate ’andenßossche, Chad Miller, lachel Lichtenbarger, Kelly Tinge, Amy Dooms, and starring in heir final drama club production, Umee Christensen and Barry louser. Student directors are dandie Stafford and Yvonne Schmeltz. The entire production is directed by Mr. Richard Fansler. Tickets are available at the door ind are $3.00. LEAGUE CLEANUP AND TRYOUTS SCHEDULED The Walkerton Junior League Baseball field cleanup will be Saturday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. We need your help to ready our ball diamond for the season. The Walkerton Junior Baseball League tryouts have been changed to: minor league — Sunday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. Major league tryouts will be Sunday, April 9 at 3:00 p.m. at the Junior League ball field. This is an artist rendering of the Urey Middle School and addition as viewed from Washington Street. A three-level addition is being added on to the west side of the existing building with a one floor extension to the north. A new cafeteria, kitchen and entrance is being added to the east side of the building. St. Joseph County Sets Immunization Clinics Dates Here The Saint Joseph County Health Department will be conducting Immunization Clinics at various locations. No appointments are necessary. All children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and all previous shot records are needed for immunizations. Now is the time to get immunizations for children entering kindergarten and the 6th grade this fall. Avoid the crowds and hassle this summer. The area clinics will be, in Walkerton, at the United Methodist Church, 1000 Georgia Street, on Tuesday, April 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In North Liberty, Tuesday, April 11, at the North Liberty Community Center, 300 S. Main Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. At Lakeville, on Thursday, April 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Old Lakeville School Project, U.S. 31, Lakeville. NOTICE Residential trash rates are going up 36 cents a month in Walkerton. This increase will begin on the April Ist billing. Superior Waste Systems received an increase in disposal cost from the landfill and is passing that increase on to the Town. i NOTICE If a tornado is sighted in the Walkerton area the siren will be blown for one (1) minute, off one (1) minute, on one (1) minute, off one (1) minute and on one (1) minute. J.G. Schools Set Kindergarten Round-Up Dates The John Glenn School Corporation has released the plans for the Kindergarten Roundups. The North Liberty Roundup will be Thursday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Walkerton Elementary will be Thursday, April 6, at 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. It is very imporant that all parents of children who will be five (5) on or before June Ist attend this meeting. The school asks the children not to attend this meeting. During the roundup parents will: Complete registration forms; Have birth certificates (from county health department checked); Sign up for a kindergarten screening; North Liberty April 12 and 13; Walkerton Elementary School, April 19,20, 21; Receive dental and health information and forms Meet other parents to discuss car pools; Receive a kindergarten handbook; and Receive an explanation of our kindergarten programs. A legal birth certificate is required. This can be obtained from the county health department in which your child was born. There will be no school for Pre-K and Kindergarten students on the screening dates above. CORRECTION Last week we printed the wrong telephone number for Mildred McKesson in regards to anyone offering her information concerning the addresses of various Walkerton Alumni. Animal Tags Now On Sale In Walkerton The 1994 Walkerton Animal tags are now on sale at the clerktreasurer’s office. Fees are as follows: Each altered dog or cat, $2.00. Each unaltered dog or cat, SIO.OO. Except upon a statement from a licensed veterinarian that neutering shall constitute a threat to the health of said animal, the fee shall be $5.00. Senior citizens ( age 62 or older) upon presentation of written verification from a licensed veterinarian that said animal(s) have been spayed or neutered, the fee shall be (no part of which will be paid to the Town), SI.OO. Replacement tag, $2.00. , Town controlled animal permit: fee, per animal, SIOO.OO. Pet shop/breeder permit, $50.00. Dangerous animal/attack dog permit: fee per animal, $50.00. Animal performance or exhibit permit: fee, SIOO.OO. You must bring proof that your animal has had its rabies shot and has been neutered. Receipts, for these things, from your veterinarian will serve as proof. If you choose not to have your animal neutered, the licensing fee is higher. 2ta6 Plan Walkerton Elementary P.T.A. JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES March 21, 1995 Regular Session CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The Board of School Trustees of John Glenn School Corporation met in regular session on March 21, 1995 at 7:30 p.m. in the John Glenn High School. All members were present with the exception of David Gensinger. The School Board along with the superintendent and approximately 12 observers began the meeting with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of minutes for the March 7, 1995 regular session and executive session were approved by unanimous consent. APPROVAL OF CLAIMS - 396 through 505 A motion was made by Janice Ryan, seconded by Ben Smith, to approve claims numbered 396 through 505. The motion was approved by a six to zero vote. PATRON RESPONSE Mr. Jeff Johnson questioned the Board on the surface water drainage problem at Urey Middle School. RECOGNITIONS Mrs. Marilyn Lightfoot, principal at Walkerton Elementary School, recognized coaches, cheerleading sponsors and all other adults that were part of the Walkerton Elementary School basketball program. The adults were responsible and good models; the students demonstrated good skills and sportsmanship. Mrs. Lightfoot reported that Walkerton Elementary had received $1,159.35 from Ray & Kenny’s Super Valu Educational Advantage Program. Mr. Richard Reese, principal at Urey Middle School, thanked Ray & Kenny’s Super Valu for the $206.50 check Urey Middle School received for their participation in the Educational Advantage Program. The Urey Band and Swing Choir recently performed at the ISSMA contest and received a second division rating — ‘/i point away from a first place rating! The Urey Middle School Swing Choir director is Miss Melissa Foy and band director is Miss Cathy Austin. The Urey P.T.A. recognized the following students as Students of the Month for January: Steven Fick, Bth grade son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Fick, Plymouth, and Katie Pletcher, 7th grade daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curt Pletcher, Wal kerton. Teachers of the Month selected were: Mr. Bill Norris, Industrial Technology, January; Mrs. Vicki Craig, Resource Room teacher, February; and Mrs. Michelle Chamberlin, Bth grade Social Studies, March. Mr. Mike Shuler, principal at John Glenn High School, announced that the “Aerial’’, John Glenn High School student literary publication. has been awarded first place in the Ball State University Creative Writing Contest. Students on the “Aerial” staff will be honored during an awards ceremony on English Achievement Day at Ball State. Shirley Anderson made a motion, seconded by Tom McCormick, to approve the donations from Ray & Kenny’s Super Valu to Walkerton Elementary School for (continued on Page 12)
