Last year’s was a lot of fun, and this year is shaping up to be very entertaining. Dick Fansler, Sherry Klinedinst, Barry Houser and others will share a variety of talents to raise scholarships for Youth wanting to go to Church camp. ADMISSION WILL BE A FREE WILL OFFERING

SERVICES NEWS WALKERTON On Monday we just sat around and talked as Hazel and Harold Schweder couldn’t be here. Mildred McKesson gave prayer. Tuesday, we just talked about different things. We also welcomed Ed and Reva Dankert here for the first time. We at REAL Service are happy to have them join us. Thank you, Gale Mayfield, for decorating the building and tables for St. Patricks Day and the month. Gale has been very faithful in decorating for every holiday for us. We appreciate your work, Gale. Wednesday, this was a day of visiting and enjoying everyone’s company. On Thursday we had juice give away with Katie Capes and Gerald Kerr as winners. Jessie Schaeffer had the program telling us some short stories, such as: The prohibition era was having an impact on the town of Walkerton. The elimination of alcohol and eliminated alcohol-related crime in the town. In fact in the spring of 1919, Walkerton tore down its jail. There had been so few arrests in Walkerton that there really wasn’t any need for the wooden building used as a jail. The town marshall who once stayed busy arresting drunks, scarcely had enough work to justify his job. Shortly after the jail was torn down, the marshall began a crusade against speeding and arrested three people in just one afternoon. That same evening the marshall was arrested by the constable for failing to observe a parking regulation. After that

incident, the marshal focused his attention on picking up stray animals and keeping a check on railroad stations. Works also had slowed for the town’s justice of the peace, an office that was feeling the financial pinch since fines for alcohol related offenses no longer brought in any revenue. Item If the moon were made of cheese, I would reach into the sky for a late night snacking sandwich of ham and moon on rye. Item #2, College student wrote home: “Am without friends or funds.’’ His dad wrote back, “Make friends.” Item #3, Man to son: “Os course this country has faith in your generation, just look at the size of the debt we expect to pay off. ’ ’ On Friday we had our regular sing-a-long with Verice Walz at the piano and Virginia Anheim leading the singing.
