JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES (continued from Page 1 John Glenn High School, reported that John Glenn High School students competing in the ISSMA State Vocal Solo & Ensemble Contest in Indianapolis on February 25 include the John Glenn Choir, solisists Barry Houser and Chad Miller, and a mixed ensemble with members Cortney Whitmer, Michelle Holderread, Jaime Kotolinski, Rachel Lichtenbarger, Don Kelly, Chad Miller, Jason Knepp and Barry Houser. John Glenn High School students winning at the recent instrumental ISSMA State Solo and Ensemble Contest were Rachel Lichtenbarger, Debbie Lichtenbarger, Courtney Sellers, Angel Dietrich (flute quartet); Rebekah Eversole, Stephanie Holderread, Stacy Roush, Beth Arnett, Aaron DeGroff, Heidi Lynn, Tracy Limerick, Amanda Vaughan, Lori Wharton, Gail Ferency (clarinet choir); Aimee Christensen, B. J. Morgan, Casey Pawell, Jami Wagner, Christina Bierly, Ben Long (percussion ensemble). The John Glenn Decathlon Team competed at the State Contest finishing eighth overall and first place in Interview with Josh Smith receiving a gold medal and Amy Paul receiving the bronze medal. Regional Scholastic Art winners have been named with Bridget Honaker and Amy Paul winning Silver Keys. Gold Keys and the opportunity to compete nationally were earned by Jennifer Annis, Tisha Jacosbon and Jacinda Pairitz. Jacinda also received the prestigious Hallmark nomination. Sponsors are Mrs. Wait and Mr. Thomas. Mr. Shuler recognized students and staff for all the hard work that goes into attaining such outstanding achievements. NEW BUSINESS 1. Approve Resolution Regarding the Approval of Final Plans and Specifications and Other Matters Related to Urey Middle School and John Glenn High School Projects. Following review of the final plans and specifications by School Architect Kari Vilamaa and discussion of other matters pertaining to the resolution, a motion was made by Janice Ryan, seconded by Ben Smith, to approve the resolution of the Board of School Trustees of the John Glenn School Corporation regarding the approval of final plans and specifications and other matters related to Urey Middle School and John Glenn High School projects. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. A copy of the resolution is on file with the Board minutes. Board members complimented Mr. Vilamaa for his work on the drawings and specifications for the renovation and addition to Urey Middle School and John Glenn High School. 2. Approve 1995-96 School Calendar Robert Schaeffer made a motion, seconded by Janice Ryan, to approve the 1995-96 school calendar. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 3. Approve 1995 Summer Driver Education Fee David McKee, superintendent, recommended to the School Board that the Driver Education fee be increased from the 1994 rate of
$152 to $167 dollars per student. The increase is necessary to offset increased cost in car rental and instructor salaries. Student fees cover approximately 80% of the program cost with a remainder of expenses being covered by the school corporation. A motion was made by Tom McCormick, seconded by Janice Ryan, to set the driver education fee at $167 for 1995. Following discussion where Board members expressed concern that the increased fee may result in some students not being able to afford the class and the Board’s interest in seeing as many students as possible take drivers education, the motion was approved by a five to two vote with Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Keck voting no. 4. Approve General Education Development Diploma Monique R. Kurzhal A motion was made by Ben Smith, seconded by Tom McCormick, to approve the General Education Development Diploma for Monique R. Kurzhal. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. REPORTS 1. Superintendent’s Report The School Board was advised that the Building Corporation will meet at 6:00 p.m. on March 1, 1995 at Urey Middle School for the purpose of approving the resolution regarding the approval of final plans and specifications and other matters related to Urey Middle School and John Glenn High School. 2. Reports to Board a. Conferences Approved b. Conference Reports The School Board was presented with list of conferences approved and reports on conferences attended. NEXT MEETING DATE The Board of School Trustees will meet in regular session on March 7, 1994 at 7:30 p.m. at John Glenn High School.
