Marshall County AARP to Meet Thursday, Feb. 23 The Marshall County Chapter of AARP is presenting for all Marshall County residents over 50, the February 23rd meeting for a timely discussion Mr. Randall C. Danielson will lead. Also invited are those living in the surrounding areas close to Marshall County. In these uncertain days we find the only constant in life is change and we often find ourselves in- ’ volved in changing situations and environments. In making plans and setting goals today one of our options for the future is Mr. Danielson’s topic, pre-paid funerals and what is involved in management of this perparation of an important detail of our future planning. Mr. ‘ Danielson is fully qualified to give the very latest information in this fast growing alternative for senior citizens who in today’s world live, so often, far from immediate family members. Mr. Danielson is the owner of Johnson Funeral Home in Plymouth and involved with many families in the planning procedures of these options. The regular meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, in the First United Church of Christ in Plymouth. The address is 321 N. Center Street. Plan to attend these meetings each month each fourth Thursday for fun, fellowhsip, active learning and even a bit of refreshment with friends, neighbors newly retired in our communites. March is Women’s History Month and an interesting program is being formulated. Spring is coming so plan to join this lively group and be a part of the action in North Central Indiana.

PARTICIPATES IN STATE JR. MISS • WRIs III' ~ r
Amimee Christensen, Walkerton’s Junior Miss, competed in a successful Indiana’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program in Frankfort, Indiana. Thirty-three high school senior girls competed for over $20,000. Junior Miss seeks to recognize, reward and encourage excellence in young women with an emphasis on building self-confi-dence during the process. Indiana’s Junior Miss ranks in the top three best state pageants. Nicole Swartzentruber, from Middlebury, won the positon of 1995 Indiana’s Junior Miss. She received over SB,OOO in scholarships, a SI,OOO wardrobe from JC Penny’s, a watch, savings bond, and a chance to compete in America’s Junior Miss in Mobile, Alabama this summer. Her thoughts of the program were, “It was a week of growing more independent. At the same time, I learned the importance of God, family and friends in life.” Junior Miss is a scholarship program promoting personal excellence, rather than being a “beauty pageant”. There is no bathing suit category. Another differing factor is the Creative and Performing Art instead of a typical “talent” category. Judging focuses on creativity, costume, and delivery — only 5% is based on the technical ability of the contestant.
Also, one half of the judging occurs off-stage, consisting of an interview by a panel of judges and scholastic achievement. Aimee Christensen is show presenting her Creative and Performing Art, 20% of the on-stage competiton. VALENTINE’S DAY OBSERVED BY JOHNSON EHC As there was no meeting in January, members of the Johnson Twp. Extension Homemakers Cub observed Valentine’s Day Wednesday at the Community Building in Johnson Township. President Cathy Ganger reported on the Christmas party at the Ponderosa in LaPorte. The spring style show was announced for April 26. Contact the Extension office if you are interested. The next meeting will be March 15th with the election of officers. There will be a memorial servcie for the late Ruth Dreessen. The telephone committee will be reactivated to remind members to attend.
