NORTH LIBERTY By Gladys Sheneman Aletha Croy was a Sunday dinner guest of Gladys Sheneman. Luncheon guests Sunday evening were Ethel Rauen and Ethel Holmes. Other callers were Joan Holmes, Kari Williams and son Evan, of Crete, Illinois, and Susie Groves. Many of you readers will remember Joe McCarty who lived in Culver but graduated in Tyner, Class of 1932. He was a classmate. He was a retired maintenence foreman at Culver Military Academy. He was 80 and died Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital in Plymouth. His funeral will be Monday with burial in the Culver Masonic Cemetery. Our sympathy goes to his wife, son David and family and a number of brothers and sisters. As you can see kids had lots of cures used on them to ward off colds back then, but they never "faked one" just to get out of school because the alternative was much worse. Will have another cure for you next week. We certainly are all going to miss Jane Cooper in Ist Source Bank, but we all wish her will as she goes to Knox to work in Ist Source Bank there. Congratulations to Gene and Norma Patrick who will be celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary Friday, February 3. How many of you who attended their wedding remember how terrible foggy it was that night and it was cold, icy and snowy. What a night, and in case you didn’t know, that is my daughter and son-in-law. ( Mabel Zehner, of Koontz Lake, was very pleasantly suprised Friday evening, January 27, when her family all arrived with ice cream and cake to help her celebrate her birthday. On Sunday, January 29, Jerry Zehner took his mother, Mabel Zehner, to the Tippecanoe Place for brunch and when she arrived all her family, grandchildren and all were there to greet her and enjoy brunch. She was really surprised and received many gifts and she will never forget this birthday surprise. Please remember Kenneth Doan who suffered a heart attack last

Tuesday and is now a patient in St. Joseph Medical Center. He needs our prayers and a card. Congratulations Ed Arlet on winning $7,000 on the Hoosier Millionaire Show on Saturday evening. I would say that was a wonderful Christmas gift from your dad. So sorry to hear of the death of Wayne Matz (75) who passed away in his sleep down at his home in Florida. He leaves a daughter, Rosalie, and three sons, Michael, Stephen and Phillip. He was born in Teegarden and was a lifelong area resident. He was well liked and is going to be greatly missed by all his relatives and friends. His funeral was Saturday at the First Brethren Church in Teegarden and he was buried in the Morris Cemetery of Road 6. Happy birthday Kari Williams, of Crete, Illinois, as you celebrate your birthday on Saturday, February 4 from all your North Liberty relatives and friends. Maxine Six is now a resident at Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, so please remember her. Happy 80th birthday goes to Cecil Schmeltz, formerly of the Walkerton area and now living in Plymouth, His birthday is Saturday, February 4, his daughters have invited family and friends to an open house at the Plymouth Moose Lodge. Congratulations to Barbara Zimmerle who retired last Thursday from Hook’s Drug Store on Monroe Street, LaPorte after working as a clerk for the past IWi years. Sunday dinner guests of Carl and Barbara Zimmerle were Gary and Dorothy Zimmerle and daughters, of Niles, Barry and Sally Zimmerle and family of Granger, Steve Morris and family, and Lisa and daughters, on Sunday evening. Twenty-two members of the Happy Hearts class of the Blissville Church took a carry-in dinner for ten of the residents at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth, most of them members of the church. They enjoyed the get together in the Orchard Room. Residents were John Lemert, Henry Lemert, Dulcie Holderread, Bob Bledso, Bob Hendricks, Ann Martin, Mrs. Irick, Genevieve Haney, and Pauline Hiatt. Marie Summers played her keyboard, special music were Verl Haag and Florence Seekings, Marie Summers and Linda Parker. It was an evening that none will forget. Bob and Dorothy Knecht and their family recently returned home after taking a Caribbean cruise from the 14th to the 21st with 28 relatives from Alaska, California, Hawaii, Washington, Maryland, Arizona, Minnesota, Colorado and Indiana. It was a wonderful family reunion as they met many that they hadn’t seen for a long time. The weather was just perfect and they will never forget this family reunion.
