GLENN JV GIRLS COP FIRST EVER RI-COUNTY TITLE Coach Dan Hutton’s Glenn Falcons captured the 1995 Bi-County girls junior varsity basketball tournament Saturday afternoon by whipping New Prairie 30-22 in the championship contest at Bremen. The locals advanced to the title tilt by dumping Argos 44-28 in the morning semi-final round while New Prairie was idle due to a forfeit by Culver Girls Academy. Several members of CGA’s team were sick with the flu and they were unable to field a team. It marked the first time that Glenn has copped the eight-year junior varsity affair. The title win upped the Falcons record to a sparkling 15-2, a new school record for JV victories in a season. It also kept alive a 10 game win streak, another school season best for JV DUAN^RAKE’S TREE SERVICE TREE REMOVAL TREE TRIMMING STUMP REMOVAL Estimates Phone (219) 936-6546 Plymouth

girls. The loss dropped a much improved Cougar team to 6-9 on the year. The Glenn gals, with just a 90 minute rest between games, came out in the championship bout and battled their way to a 5-2 edge at the end of round one. Heidi Wasteney kept her team’s title hopes alive by scoring nine of her game high 15 points in the second stanza to help her teammates to a hard fought 14-12 advantage at the intermission. Coach Hutton’s troops looked a little tired in the third frame as the Cougars took their only lead of the game at 19-18 late in the period. But the Falcons somehow found the energy to regain the lead 21-19 as the quarter came to an end. The Falcons rested their starters by rotation in the third period and took off their full court man-to-man press the last 1:50 of the stanza. The nearly two minute break from the press seemed to revive the locals. They went back to their aggressive full court pressure at the start of the final six minutes and went on an 8-1 run to lead 29-20 with just over three minutes left. Coach Hutton was very pleased with his team’s effort. "Our kids showed what they are made of today. Not many teams have had to take on a fresh team after an hour and half rest from a tough game," stated the Falcon mentor. “Our kids never batted an eye when they learned before the game that New Prairie did not play in the morning. They just went out and got the job done like the true
champions they are," he added. New Prairie coaches were really confident before the game as they felt their team had really improved lately and with the additional rest they had a very good chance to upset the locals. But the Falcons showed their true grit and just were not going to be denied. The Falcons had their hands full throughout much of the first half as they led the Dragons by only 11-10 at the first stop before taking a 21-16 advantage to the dressing room at half time. The winners came out strong after the break and built their lead to 34-23 to start the final six minutes of play. Heidi Wasteney paced the Falcons with 15 points to send her team into the championship game. Argos’ ususally high scoring guard, Angie Dunlap, was held to

just nine tallies by outstanding defensive performances by WasteVy and Johanna Hathaway. Argos coach Shelly Feldman was very optimistic before the game about her team’s chances as she felt her team had really improved since the first meeting with the Falcon’s earlier in the year. She claimed her team was playing the best they had all season and was very disappointed in the final results as her team fell to 7-7 on the season. Coach Hutton again praised his entire team for their fine performance. He singled out his bench for a super effort as each player who entered the game gave a fine account of themselves.
