He is tied with ■Argos’ Phil Weybright with five. The win boosted the Bobcats to a record on the season while the ■*Jcons are even at 7-7. ■ The two teams battled through a ■close first quarter with Glenn ■holding a slim one point lead, ■l6-15, after one. Landon Wiegand ■had four baskets for the Falcons ■while Frazier had seven for Ore-■gon-Davis. ■ The Falcons started to edge ■ ahead in the second period as ■ scoring was slow. Glenn outscored ■ the Bobcats 11-7 and lead 27-22 at ■ halftime. ■ The Falcons continued to slowly I pull away in the second half. They ■ increased their lead to 41-34 after ■ three periods, and opened their ■ biggest margin 50-38 with 5:38 to ■ play. However a big 25 point ■ fourth quarter capped by Frazier’s ■game winner, made the difference. For the game, Wiegand led all ■ scorers with 23 points as he had ■ nine baskets including four three- ■ pointers. Brian Lyle had 13 and ■ Nick Medich 10 for the Falcons. J.G. Academic Decathlon Team Advances To State On Saturday, the John Glenn Academic Team competed at the Regional Contest held at Kankakee Valley High School. There were 10 schools competing at this site. The opposing schools were Valparaiso, Portage, Chesterton, LaPorte, Lowell, Kankakee Valley, North Judson, North Newton and River Forest. John Glenn captured 3rd place behind champion Valpo and runner-up Kankakee Valley. The teams consist of nine members who take a series of tests in seven different subject areas, interview, give two speeches, and write an essay. The students are separated into three groups determined by their grade point average. The students representing John Glenn are Christin Mattix, Krista Eastbum, Charles Martin, Amy Paul, Lisa Gee, Joshua Smith, Elyse Gingenpeel, Kim Pinckert, Mathew Church, and alternates Rebekah Ebersole and Benjamin Long. Award winners for their specific dibisions at the regional contest were: Christian Mattix — Ist place in Math and Economics, 2nd place in Literature, 3rd place in interview, Fine-Arts, Science. Charles Martin — 2nd place in Essay, 3rd place in Fine-Arts. Kristie Eastburn — 4th place in Speech. Amy Paul — Ist place in Essay, 2nd place in Fine-Arts, Science Literature, 3rd (tie) place in Economics. Joshua Smith — 3rd (tie) place in Economics. Lisa Gee — 2nd place in Essay. Elyse Gingenpeel — Ist place in Math and Literature, 3rd place in Science. Kim Pinckert — 2nd place in Social Studies, 3rd place in Essay. Matthew Church — Ist place in Essay, 3rd place in interview. Immunization Clinic Set For Walkerton And North Liberty The Saint Joseph County Health Department will be conducting Immunization Ginics in Walkerton and North Liberty in February. In Walkerton, the Ginic will be held at the United Methodist Church, 1000 Georgia Street, on Tuesday, February 7, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. In North Liberty, the Ginic will be held at the North Liberty Community Center, 300 S. Main Street, on Tuesday, Februuary 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. No appointments are necessary. All children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and all previous shot records are needed for immunization. Now is the time to get immunizations for children entering kindergarten and the 6th grade this fall. Avoid the crowds and hassle this summer. For further information call 235-9783. FAN BUS FOR JIMTOWN GAME JAN. 27 The fan bus for the boys basketball game at Jimtown on Friday, January 27, will leave John Glenn at 5:15 p.m. and North Liberty at 5:30 p.m. Game time is 6:30 p.m. The cost to ride the fan bus is SI.OO for adults and students.

John Glenn Class Os ’75 Reunion Meeting The John Glenn High School Class of 1975 will be holding a meeting to plan and organize a 20 year class reunion. The meeting will take place January 31st at 6:00 p.m. at Welco’s in Walkerton. Any class members interested in helpng, please attend or call 586-7793 for future meetings. Glenn Girls To Meet Plymouth In Sectional The John Glenn girls basketball team will play Plymouth in the opening game of the LaVille Sectional. On Tuesday, January 31, Glenn plays Plymouth at 6:00 p.m. followed by LaVille and New Prairie at 7:30 p.m. Action resumes on Thursday, February 2, when South Bend Washington and South Bend Riley meet at 6:00 p.m. followed by Tuesday’s winners. JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES Special Session CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The Board of School Trustees of the John Glenn School Corporation met in special session on January 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the John Glenn High School. All members were present. The school board along with the superintendent and approximately 20 observers began the meeting with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The school board minutes for the regular and executive session on January 10,1995 were approved by unanimous consent. NEW BUSINESS 1. Appointment a. Cindy King, head bus driver A motion was made by Janice Ryan, seconded by Ben Smith, to approve the appointment of Cindy King as head bus driver. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 2. Approve 1995 Wages and Benefits for Gassified Employees A motion was made by Shirley Anderson, seconded by David Gensinger, to approve the classified salary schedule for 1995 which provides an increast of 3% on the first step of that increase being applied at the additional steps, increased contribution on health insurance by the school corporation on the single plan by $10.42 per month and on the family plan by $22.86 per month, and the substitute teacher pay increased to S4B. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. A copy of the Gassified Salary Schedule for 1995 is on file in the administration office. 3. Approve Resolution Authorizing the Execution of a Lease Related to the Urey, Middle School Project a. Review Urey Middle School Addition and Renovation Project Superintendent David McKee reviewed with the board the history of the project and the involvement of the community in developing the plan to renovate and add on to Urey Middle School for grades seven and eight. The proposed Urey Middle School project equals or exceeds the educational specifications of a new school for grades seven and eight with the exception of the gym and will fulfill the educational program requirements for middle school students. The project is financially responsible to the taxpayers and the board will have the financial resources available to resolve future problems facing the school corporation which includes the issue of the growing enrollment in the elementary schools. Kari Vilamaa, architect with Barton-Coe-Vilamaa, went over the design plan for the renovation and addition to Urey Middle School pointing out that the addition of 47,251 square feet will provide a new entrance to the school off of Washington Street and on a lower level there will be a new office, art, industrial tech, band, music, home economics and health rooms. On the second floor of the addition will be a media center along with two classrooms. The media center will be accessible from the third floor of the existing building.
