WALKERTON TOWN COUNCIL MINUTES December 19, 1994 The Walkerton Town Council met at 7:090 p.m. on December 19, 1994 with the following members present: Gene Reese. Gordon Hartsell. Cheryl Rizek. Walter Heil and Leonard Jaske. Attorney David Holmes and clerk-treasurer Judy Hiler were also present. The Plan Commission deferred a decision on the Mahoney rezoning until 6:00 p.m. on January 16. 1995. MONTHLY REPORTS Fire chief Larry Dill gave the November Fire Report to the Council. Their election of officers is as follows: Chief will be Larry Dill (completing a two-year term); assistant Chiefs. John McGovern and Tod Brems; Captains, Gene Brems and Jeff Hamilton; Lieutenants, Bram Morris and Jeff Baker; and Training Officers, Tod Brems and Jeff Baker. This slate of officers was accepted on a motion by Len Jaske. seconded by Walt Heil. Carried. The Fire Department's insurance costs were discussed, and Dill said he knows of a company that will cover fire and ambulance at a cheaper rate. President Rizek said that our policy expires next June, and feels that we should start looking into new coverage next spring. The Council also plans to drop earthquake coverage at that time. The Council reviewed the untility department's Accumulated Time

report. Dave Bolze reported that he has spot checked the Mid American Utility electric project, and has found six things that he would like to have changed. Rossborough Mfg. now has full power, but won’t be ready for the electric for about another month. Bolze said that final payment can be made to MidAmerican, but to hold the ten percent retainage until the final inspection is made. Pyramid is due to come in this month to tear down the old water substation. Bolze asked for permission to install a double gate at that site. Len Jaske made the motion to allow. Seconded by Gordon Hartsell. Carried. Bolze said that he would like to send Tod Brems and Kent VanDyne to NIPSCO's underground line school. The school lasts five days at $250.00 per day per man. Bolze asked if the men will be required to sign a contract to pay the school fee back to the Town, if they leave the town's employ before three years are up. Len Jaske made the motion to approve two men going to the school. Seconded by Walt Heil. Carried. The pay back terms will be decided at the next meeting. Bolze has talked to Terry Baugher and they will be preparing a priority list of water improverments after the first of the year. Bolze has started a valve location program. Bolze has received a letter from Larson-Danielson, asking for the Town to pay so $3,700.00 of the cost of extending a water service line to Rossborough Mfg. This matter was turned over to attorney Holmes. Walt Heil made the motion to । allow Dave and Kenny Bolze to attend the AWW A Water Meeting I in February. Seconded by GorI don Hartsell. Carried. I Jeff Zehner asked the Council to give him some guidelines for the 1995 sidewalk project. President Rizek said that during the budget hearings, last summer, the Council decided to do something for senior citizen's sidewalks. The Council had agreed to pay 100% of the sidewalk cost for senior citizens living on a fixed income. Zehner is going to meet with two Council members to set a criteria and guidelines for applicants. employee in the Wastewater and Motor Vehicle Highway Departments. Burch is currently being paid $5.50 an hour, the same as summer help. Gene Reese made the motion to pay temporary help $7.50 an hour, beginning January 1, 1995. Seconded by Gordon Hartsell. Carried. The pay for summer help will remain at $5.50
