team to take a winning record into the Christmas break for the first time in seven seasons. Die locals improved to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in league play and left the Cougars still looking for their first win of the campaign in nine starts including five NSC outings. The Falcons opened the game a little sluggish both offensively and defensively as the Cougars broke Glenn's full court press and scored several easy buckets to take a 10-8 advantage at the first stop. Coach Hostetler’s charges hit on only three of 12 shots from the field in the initial stanza against a very aggressive Cougar 2-3 zone defense. New Prairie used the defense in an effort to slow the Falcons’ high scoring Tracy Legge on the inside. Legge was held to just two first half points as the Cougars double and triple teamed her every time she handled the ball close to the basket. In the second quarter the Falcons slowed down th New Prairie offensive attack and with just over a minute left in the half Renee Fisher scored to give her team the lead for good at 16-14. Legge tallied on a layup to make it 18-14 at the intermission. The Falcons opened the third period with eight unanswered points to build a 26-14 lead with four minutes still left in the segment. Just when the black clad visitors seemed to have things in hand, New Prairie staged a rally of its own to cut the margin to five at the third stop, 26-21. Coach Hostetler’s girls started the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run and never looked back as they raced to a 16-point victory. Sophomore Lindsay O’Connor sparked the local attack with 12 points. Legge added 10 markers followed by Fisher with nine and Tiffany Hesters eight. Heather Ludlow and Sara Belzowski topped the New Prairie scoring with six points apiece. The Falcons hit on 16 of 44 from the field and five of 10 from the foul line. Coach Dan Shead's quintet was only nine of 33 from the floor and give of eight at the charity stipe.
