After 30 years of practicing optometry. Dr. Elliott Frash will be retiring this month. He came to Walkerton in 1957 and along with “Jake" Powell founded the Junior League Baseball program. His practice will be continued in Walkerton by Dr. Robert Proudfit, of South Bend. Park offices will reopen Tuesday, December 27. Weather permitting, tube hills at Ferrettie/Baugo Creek and at St. Patrick's County Parks will be open Monday, December 26. Christmas Theme For Community Club Meeting The meeting room at Al's Diner at Koontz Lake was beautifully decorated and filled with the Christmas spirit on Friday, December 2nd. The GFWC Walkerton Woman's Community Gub held their annul Christmas Party with 25 members and one guest, Bernice Cucci. President Barbara Simpson opened the meeting with a short article called "A Smile”. The first activity on the agenda was a Memorial Service for those members who had passed away during the last year. They were Charlotte Behnke, Violet Drake, Bess Ferverda, Dorothy Walz and Isel McCombs. Alice Walker, a longtime member, talked of what she remembered of the deceased members. The president informed the group that Frieda Meyer, Ethel Fields, Ella Remus and Margaret Tracy were all ill and would appreciate calls or cards. Lucille Dipert’s husband, Richard, is also ill; a card to cheer her up could be sent. Mildred Casey read a humorous Christmas story by Ogden Nash and a short essay on Christmas. Janet Bierly also gave a short history of angels. The ladies had brought Christmas ornaments with which they decorated the tree. A collection was taken up for toys for needy youngsters and also for the Community Pantry. $50.60 was given for toys and $46.40 for the pantry. Mildred Nolcheff, assisted by Nadine Keiper, raffled off a very attractive large doily that she had made and had exhibited at a statewide Arts and Crafts show. The raffle netted $27.00. It was won by Ruth Ullery who was celebrating her birthday on Friday. A grab bag was passed among the members with presents for everyone. This was a very generous contribution of vice president Carol Knop. Most of the member had brought homemade cookies and after the

The meeting was adjourned after Barbara Simpson’s reading of a poem by an unknown author, called “May You Have”: “Enough happiness to keep you sweet, enough trials to keep you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to keep you happy; enough failure to keep you humble, enough success to keep you eager, enough friends to give you comfort, enough wealth to meet your needs, enough enthusiasm to look forward, enough faith to banish depression and enough determination to make each day better than yesterday". The next meeting will be held on January 6th. Hostesses for the meeting will be Helen Heymig and Gertrude Brehm. Members were reminded to bring prizes for bingo at the Miller’s Merry Manor nursing home in February. Old World Monkeys — those found in Africa and Asia — have 32 teeth as do human beings.
