She is married and has three children and presently lives in Tyner. Mrs. Whitmer is our crossing guard and part of our office staff. Kari has been employed by the John Glenn School Corporation for three years. Mrs. Whitmer always has a smile for all students even when she is standing on the corner crossing students in the freezing cold. Thanks for taking care of our walkers. Eldon Anderson is our support staff of the month for September. He has been a custodian at Walkerton Elementary School for 17 years. WALKERTON WILDCATS WIN AT HOME The Walkerton Wildcats fifth grade boys basketball team broke away from a close game with St. Patrick Monday to win the game 30 - 18. All A-team players helped in the game with good efforts. Mike Norris led the Wildcats with 8 points, Nick Stegal 2, Glenn Stull 2, Randy Rodriguez 3, Jeremiah Whitmer 4, Josh Smith 5 and Kyle O’Dell 6. J. Moerman and Ross Holland led St. Patricks with 10 and 8 points. Others contributing to the victory were Brett Butler, Derek Daube, Ashlee Jackson, Bobby Egger, Josh Walker, Chris Keck, Justin Niedbalski and David Hawkins. The Walkerton Sth grade will be home Monday, December 12 and Wednesday, December 14 with North Liberty and LaVille. B games are at 4:15 and A games at 5:15. Celebrate Christmas early by coming to one of these games. JOHN GLENN JR. VARSITY BASKETBALL NEWS The John Glenn JV Basketball team opened their 1994-95 season November 25th at Gay. The Colonial surged to a 15 to 4 first quarter lead only to see the Falcons come back with a 13 to 5 run of their own for a 20 to 17 halftime score in favor of Gay. Clay lost the lead, but gained it back in time for a 37-33 victory. Sophmore Dale Groves led the Glenn attack with 14 points followed by classmate Ed Pontius with 12 points and five rebounds. Glenn traveled to Culver Decem--1 ber 2nd and suffered another close defeat by the score of 38 to 37. The Falcons held a four point lead going into the final period, but could not hang on to the victory. Freethrows and turnovers were crucial factors in the game as the Falcons could only connect on 5 of 17 freethrow attempts in the second half to go along with 20 turnovers in the game. Junior Ernie Gark scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while freshman Corey Rough added 8 points in the game. Exciting finishes may be the norm for the season as the Glenn J.V. provided another close game edging the Oregon Davis Bobcats 38 to 36, December 3rd. Corey Rough provided 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists to the winning cause. Ed Pontius contributed nine points and a team high four assists. Other team members playing well in the first three games are Ernie Gark, junior; Dale Groves, Andy Brinkhoff, Steve Goss, Dale Goss. Joe Hensler and Kingston Collins as sophmores and Steve Ruby, freshman. Glenn plays New Prairie and South Bend Riley this weekend. John Chapman was the real name of “Johnny Appleseed’', the American pioneer who planted large numbers of apple trees along the frontier in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s.
