NORTH LIBERTY By Gladys Shanaman Bob and Donna Balsley were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Johnson and son, Nathan, in Galesburg, Michigan. They enjoyed a gospel concert on Saturday evening in Lansing and attended their church, Northeaatern Baptist Church, on Sunday in Kalamazoo. They returned home on Monday afternoon. Saturday evening Gene and Norma Patrick took Gladys Sheneman, Tammy, Brandon, Chris and Jamie Holderbaum out for a ride to see some Christmas lights. Well, we sure saw lights as we ended up in Niles, Michigan, where we saw the home decorated with thousands of lights, Santa and his helpers and a tree loaded with big candy canes. My son-in-law took Jamie to the tree and she got a candy cane and did she enjoy eating that candy cane while we were driving around. The high light of the trip was seeing Santa Claus and his reindeer riding in a pontoon boat all decorated and lit up out in the river. We then drove back to South Bend and through Knollwood addition and were those NORTH LIBERTY REAL ESTATE AGENCY 903 So. lovely homes ever decorated, but you know I never did see any display like what we use to put out on our lawn. I can remember when we put out 800 big light bulbs one year and that was a lot back then. Now they put out hundreds and they sure are beautiful to see. Does anyone of you remember Tangee lipstick? When it was all the rage? It was almost colorless and it came in a black tube. 1 can remember because my mother wouldn’t let me wear regular lipstick but she’d let me wear Tangee. Do you remember? The North Liberty Ist Baptist Church choir and special prayer group, plus spouses, enjoyed a pot luck supper of soups, salads, or something sweet, in the Robert Balsley home on Friday evening on December 2nd. The tables and home was decorated with red and white poinsettias, red bows and fresh pine boughs. Associate pastor Kevin Alber led a devotional on the song “I Love to Tell The Story." All enjoyed singing Christmas carols around the piano. The volunteers of Miller’s Merry Manor enjoyed a delicious dinner last Tuesday evening for their Christmas party. Madelyn Nelson played dinner music, several received awards and all received a gift of appreciation. Thanks for a lovely party. Ruth Collar of the Milton home in South Bend visited her daughter Joan Carter on Saturday. They visited the Christmas Tree Farm and I went out to the car to see her. She looked good and will be 99 in July. Pleaae remember Martha MeCrosky in Miller’s Merry Manor who will be 90 years old on Thursday, December 8, so please remember her with a card or visit. She will be going to her neice Charlotte's home in South Bend for her birthday and a party.
Betty Stombaugh is now back home so please remember her and Lavon Oglesby who is in St. Joseph Rehab Center. The history of Potato Creek will be shown on December 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nature Center. If you are interested in the development of the park, it is worth going and seeing the 45 minute show of the development that has taken place. Hi Harley, down there in Florida. Merry Christmas from you other three girl friends, just want you to know we sure do miss you. Jon and Joan (Freeman) Fricker are having open house at their home at 25790 Stanton Road on Sunday, December 18 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. for Joan’s mother, Ruby Salyer, who will be celebrating her 80th birthday. So, please remember her as she is recovering from hip surgery and she is a grand lady. Have you driven around town to see all the beautiful lights? 1 have never seen so many before. I wouldn’t want to be the judges this year for the decorating contest. Just want to say a big "thank you" to our volunteer firemen for the beautiful display of red lights in our town this year. I have heard many good comments. If you would like to give the Bremen a donation to help pay for the lights, pleaae drop in at Ist Source Bank as it really cost a lot of money to buy decorations each year. ZELL O’CONNOR FAMILY CHRISTMAS GATHERING The Zell O'Connor family held their Christmas get together December 4 at the Walkerton Community Building with 65 present.
