LADY FALCONS FALL TO BREMEN IN NSC CLASH Coach Scott Hostetler's John Glenn Lady Falcons put up a galliant fight but were still overcome 53-46 by the powerful Lions at Bremen in a Northeren State Conference game Wednesday night. It was the second league loss in as many outings for the Falcons and dropped their overall mark to 2-3. The win enabled Bremen to remain atop the conference standings at 2-0 and improved its record to 4-1 on the season. Behind some fine outside shooting by sophomore Lindsay O’Connor, the Flacons battled the host Lions to even terms in the first quarter as the period ended with the teams knotted at 11 all. The taller and more experienced Lions built a five point bluge at the intermission, 26-21. In the third stanza the two teams played on nearly even terms as the winners could manage only a 37-31 lead to start the final eight minutes of play. In the last quarter Bremen made several small runs in an attempt the game open but each time the Falcons rallied with a run of their own to stay close. O'Connor spearheaded the local black and white attack with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. The deminitive point guard also drilled two three-point shots. Renee Fisher, senior cocaptain, also tallied 10 points for the Falcons. Heather Braniff, Bremen's outstanding senior allstate candidate, led the Lions with 17 points. Bremen’s 6-1 junior center, Jenny Reed, was held to just eight points. Both teams shot at identical .354 percent from the field as Glenn made 17 of 48 shots and Bremen 21 of 59 attempts. The local converted 10 of 17 free throw attempts and the winning Lions cashed in on eight of 12 tries. CHRISTIAN BY 41-33 SCORE An early offensive spurt helped Glenn’s Lady Falcons to a 41-33 win over the visiting Bruins of Bethany Christian in a non-confer-ence basketball tilt Saturday afternoon. It was the third victory in six outings for the Falcons while the Bruins fell to 3-2 on the year. Fueled by Tracy Legge’s nine first quarter points, the local quintet raced to a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes of play. And then the Falcons continued on to an 18-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Coach Scott Hostetler felt this was the best start of any team he has coached at Glenn in his four year tenure at the helm of the girls program. The local gals cooled considerably in the second frame which allowed Bethany Christian to stage a rally of its own. The blue clad visitors outscored Glenn 16-9 in the second eight-minute segment to cut the Falcons’ lead to just four points at the intermission, 27-23. Both teams had trouble finding the mark in the third stanza as the Bruins crawled to within two, 29-27, late in the quarter before a bucket by Tiffany Hesters gave her team a 31-27 cushion at the third stop. Coach Hostetler’s charges stepped up their effort in the final chapter and built an eight point bulge midway through the last eight minutes and then maintained the gap the remainder of the contest to preserve the win.
