CHAPTER I FUNDING HELPS TUTOR STUDENTS AT WALKERTON j [ * <w|B
Walkerton Elementary School is fortunate to have received federal funding to provide extra services to our students. One-hundred thirtytwo students in grades K-8 are eligible for Chapter 1 services. This is nearly 25% of our school populatioa. We have tried to include as many children as possible to help them improve skills in areas of reading and/or math in which they have weaknesses. It is our goal to help every student achieve his/her full potential by providing this variety of services. These services include extra educational materials, computers in the dassroom. aides to help teachers, incentive programs, inservice for teachers, after-school tutoring, a homeschool coordinator, counseling, Sasart Start videos with ideas on how to help children succeed in school, after-school academic dub, regional parent meetings, and paresrts informational discussion meetings. la determining which students would be eligible for these services we used a composite of criteria to get a more complete picture of our students’ needs. Some students will utilize some services while others win be better helped with other of the services. We are mindful that each child is unique and must be looked at individually. Although teacher assessment of each child's educational development is an ongoing process throughout the year, for our purposes eligibility for Chapter I services has been determined for this year. The students who are now eligible will remain eligible for the entire school year and do students will be added unless they are new in the school. Next year the entire selection process will begin from scratch. Every child's progress win be re-evaluated without any consideration of past needs. We hope that in this way we win better meet the needs of every students at Walkerton Elementary School. With parents and school personnel working together and supporting one another your child children win become empowered to do their very best. Questions about any of these services, or access to any materials or information is available by contacting Diane Vermillion. HomeSchool Coordinator at Walkerton Elementary School.
