GLENN GIRLS DROP SEASON OPENER 44 - 38 The John Glenn Lady Falcons opened their 1994-95 season with a hard fought and disappointing 44-38 setback Tuesday night to visiting South Bend LaSalle. The Falcons, playing LaSalle for the first time ever in regular season play, looked much improved even in a losing cause than their lackluster jamboree performance three days earlier at Bethany Christian. In the opener, the Falcons spent much of the first quarter at the free throw line as they took the ball hard to the basket only to be hammered by the visitors. connected on seven of eight attempts at the charity stripe to build a slight 11*7 edge at the end of one period of play. Glenn kept the pressure on during the second eight-minute segment led by senior co-captains Renee Fisher's three field goals and 10 first half points. The Lady Falcons went to the dressing room at halftime enjoying a 22-14 advantage. Tracy Legge, Glenn’s other senior co-captain, had nine tallies at the intermission but was also saddled with three fouls. Coach Scott Hostetler, in his fourth campaign as skipper of the Falcons, saw his squad squander their eight point halftime lead in the third frame to fall behind 31-28 at the end of three periods of action. His team went ice cold in the stanza, missing several easy buckets and were outgunned by a 17-6 margin. The home quintet regained its shooting touch in the last eight minutes of play, but the damage had been done as the locals could get no doser the rest of the way. Glenn cashed in on 12 of 23 attempts at the 15-foot stripe in the game while the Lions dropped 10 of 25 tries. The Falcons were whistled for 21 fouls and LaSalle 19. Legge and Fisher paced the home team’s attack with 16 and 13 points, respectively. The South
Bend team was led by Tramane Mays with 15 points. Melissa Merrill added 10 tallies for the winners. Coach Hostetler felt his team’s low offensive output and LaSalle’s offensive explosion in the third quarter was the difference in the ball game. He was very pleaaed with his team’s hustle and overall effort and hopes his charges continue to improve as the season progresses. The young and scrappy Falcons got untracked late in the first stanza to take a 10-2 advantage into the second quarter. Glenn held a 15-6 lead at the intermission as neither team could do much offensively. The local gals continued to struggle to the third period as they were outscored 11-3 and saw their lead dwindle to one point, 18-17, at the third stop. LaSalle enjoyed its only lead of the game to the first minute of the final frame, 19-18. A three-point play by Bridget Honaker put the Falcons back on top 21-19, but the Lions quickly scored to knot the count at 21 all. But then coach Dan Hutton’s charges went on a 9-2

run to ensure the win. Honaker turned to a fine offensive performance to pace the winners with 15 points. Holly Legge added 5 tallies with Lexia Drews, Hiede Wasteney and Ojeta Oke chipping to with 3 points each. Johanna Hathaway, Daniele Ludwig and Jennifer Payne played sell but did not score for the Falcons.
