Steven M. Heim Joins The Culver Academies Staff Wh.- M North Liberty native Steven M. Heim has joined the staff at The ; ulver Academies' as a staff writer md photogrpaher, according to : ynthia J. Lawson, Director of Communications. Heim is responsible for providing research, writing and editing <upport for the Culver Educational foundation's communications program, which includes marketing, public and media relations, publiations and photography. The son of Al Heim, and the late Diana Heim, of North Liberty, Steven earned his bachelor of science degree from Taylor University in 1991 and his associate of arts Jegree from Vincennes University in 1988. Heim is a 1985 graduate f John Glenn High School, Walkerton. He currently resides in Culver *ith his wife Karen (Van Prooyen, Taylor University ’93), Heim is a reporter with The Culver Citizen. Located along the north shore of lake Maxinkuckee in the town of Culver, the Academies are boarding schools offering a nine-month, sollege preparatory curriculum for grades nine through 12. The Academies have an enrollment of ■>so students with nearly 20 percent of the student body hailing from Africa, Thialand, Switzerland, Japan, Germany, Mexico, India and the Peoples Repubplic of China. Culver Military Academy, celebrating its 100th birthday anniversary in 1994, is based upon a military leadership system, and Culver Girls Academy is based upon a Prefect system, with girls following a self-rule operation. The school offers students participation in more than 30 sports and programs including horsemanship, crew, aviation and hockey. The Fine Arts are explored through dance and theater troupes and classes ranging from sculpture to ballet. Administered by The Culver Foundation, the Academies and the Culver Summer Camps operate on he same 1,800 acre campus. Acomplished Culver alumni include Bill Kock 'SB, most recent winner >f the America’s Cup yacht race, actor Hal Holbrook ’42, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner '4B, and move critic Gene Siskel '63. Korean Native Entertains At Community Club At the October 21st meeting of the GFWC Walkerton Woman’s Community Cub the members wre entertained by Suki Cho of LaPorte. A native of Korea, Mrs. Cho belongs to the LaPorte Amateur Music club. She related to the group her experiences, of how she came to this country and since she has become an American citizen. She was wearing a beautiful Korean gown. She sang “How Great Thou Art" in both English and her native language. Mrs. Cho is a member of the Walkerton Presbyterian Church. President Barbara Simpson gave a report on the October 14-16 Great Lakes Conference which she had attended in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Mildred Nolcheff showed the group a beautiful crocheted piece which she plans to enter in the state Arts and Crafts Show. Afterwards it will be available for a club auction. The president distributed copies of a sample letter addressed to President Clinton urging him to create a Multipartisan National Commission on Women. Members were asked to re-write the letter in their words and sent it to the president before the end of the year. The members were reminded that the November 4th meeting will be Guest Night and will be held at Al's Diner at Koontz Lake at 6:30 p.m. Mildred Casey informed the group that Helen Bowies, a member of the club, is very ill in the LaPorte Hospital. Birthday ladies for October were Carol Knop, Mildred Nolcheff, Alfreda Onika and Selma Pry. Alfreda won the prize of two cute Halloween characters.

MARRIED Matthew Alan Arick, of South Bend, and Jennifer Rae Smith, of Anderson, Indiana were married on September 15 in Anderson by Judge Frederick Spencer. Matthew, a 1992 graduate of John Glenn High School, is a third year student at Ball State studying Respiratory Therapy. Jennifer is a 1992 graduate of Highland High School, is employed with SCS Credit Services in Anderson. Matthew and Jennifer will live in the Muncie area.
