ROCHESTER ENOS GLENN’S HOPES 35-15 FRIDAY The John Glenn Falcons 1994 football season came to an end Friday night in the second round of sectional play. Traveling to Rochester for the second round game, the Falcons were handed a 35-15 defeat by a scrappy, small, but fast Zebra team. The Falcons ended this season with a 4-6 record under coach Dan Drotar. Rochester will take a 6-4 record west to Winamac for the Sectional 25 championship on Friday night. However, a fumble forced by Jacon Grube was covered for the Zebras by David Hartman and Rochester was soon to be on their way. A79 yard drive took only seven plays before Eric Alien ran the ball in from 8 yards out and with the first of five successful kicks by Dustin Calhoun, the hosts led 7-Q. On Rochester's next possession, they scored again rather quickly. This time a 71 yard drive took only four plays as the Zebra's offensive line was completely controlling the play in the trenches. Calhoun scored this TD on a one yard run and after the kick it was 14-0 with 41 seconds showing on the clock. Glenn did get right back in the thick of things however, as on the following kickoff, Rusty Young took the ball at the 21 and ran 79 yards for the score. This cut the Zebra’s lead to 14-7 as Thomas Stitz kicked the successful extra point for the Falcons. The night belonged to the boat

team. Not being very big, they used speed and great execution to dominate the game. They also mixed in enough big plays striking fast on several occasions. The Zebras scored about half way through the second quarter to pull to a 21-7 lead, but just before half, moved 77 yards on two plays, both completed passes for 37 and 40 yards for the score that really opened the game. It was 28-7 at the main intermission. Any thoughts the Falcons might have had early in the second half about getting back in the game took a serious detour when another fumble stopped a Glenn drive and gave Rochester the ball on their own 46. It took eight plays to cover the 54 yards to put the game out of reach. Glenn did manage to sustain a drive late in the game to score the final touchdown of the night and of the season for them. They used 14 plays in moving 85 yards with Aaron Bare crossing into pay dirt from 12 yards out with just 2:20 left in the game. A two point conversion made the final score 35-15. The Zebras outrushed the Falcons 315 to 152 with a lot of Glenn’s yards coming in the last drive. They completed only four passes, but the four were good for another 116 yards. Add to this no turnovers while the Falcons coughed up the ball three times, and you have the result, 35-15 Rochester and another step up the ladder in the state tourney.
