Sketch Erickson To Present Programs At N. L. Church
A former advertising man says he is convinced that youth today are being manipulated by outside forces through the mass media, and they are not even aware of it. He is Sketch Erickson, leading advertising artist and musician, and will be presenting a program at North Liberty First Baptist Church, 407 W. Elm, North Liberty, on Sunday, November 6, and continuing through Thursday, November 10. Sketch often finds himself stepping on toes of people on both sides of the "generation gap", but he usually wins the approval and respect of both after they hear him out. His is a positive presentation, unique in every sense of the word. Colorful poster-size cartoon drawings encourage young people to think for themselves — to be non-conformists with a positive philosophy of victorious living as contrasted with the negative, "couldn’t-care-less" attitude reflected in many corners of today's society. In a whirlwind itinerary that takes him on a 60,000 mile, crisscross tour of America each year, Sketch speaks in both high schools, churches, rallies, and summer camps. His research on the "pop" culture has earned him recognition by educators, parents, church and civic leaders as well as thousands of teens who have heard and responded to his authoritative programs. He has appeared in nearly 300 high school assemblies in a period of five months, where he received a fantastic response to his Rally for Decency and was often greeted by a standing ovation. As an artist. Sketch Erickson has studied in Europe and Giicago where he served as Art Director for several leading publishers. He is also a musician and has led choral and instrumental groups. His positive philosophy, coupled with a keen sense of humor, make him popular with all audiences. Sketch says the purpose of his program is to make people "stop, look, and listen-to be aware of the trends in today’s culture, and to think for themselves instead of allowing some exploiting element conform them to their own ends." His programs have taken him to Europe as well as Central and South America. Shetch Erickson will be at the North Liberty First Baptist Church each evening at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday morning, November 6, at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. A nursery will be provided.

He oversees the music program at camp, which includes special music, directing choirs, music contests, and music publishing. From September to May, Doyle often travels to churches in many different sections of the country. His ministry includes seminars on song leading, choir clinics, speaking. and special music by the whole family. Doyle’s family of six includes his wife, Donna, and their four children, Amy, Allen, Andrew, and Anna. Doyle and Donna were married in 1974.
