What is a burst of unusual exertion? Sudden running, lifting something quite heavy, etc. However, older people who exercise regularly— four or five times a week — have little or no increased risk. Regular exercise also decreases the risk of blood clots and lowers heart rate, blood pressure and blood cholesterol and tryglyceride levels. The absolute risk of having a heart attack at any time remains small, even if one is rather sedentary.
