works to start in this game pitting the 1-7 Lake Station team against the 3-5 Falcons. James Moore fielded a short kickoff for the visitors and took the ball right up the middle to race 74 yards for a touchdown before a lot of the people had settled down for the game. A kick by Pete Nikoloski made it 7-0 as just 16 seconds had ticked off the clock. Glenn came back with a tying score a couple of possessions later as Kingston Collins capped a Glenn drive with a 6 yard scoring run. Thomas Stitz kicked the extra point and it was 7-7 with 3:48 showing to play in the first quarter. However, the Lake Station crew wasn’t about to roll over and play dead. They struck right back with a big 58 yard pass and run play from J. C. Blankenbeker to Giris Renn giving the visitors the lead once again. This score came with still one minute left in the opening quarter and it was 14-7 early on. The Falcons defei ' e then settled down and the scoring pace slowed down a little bit. A Glenn score late in the first half managed to tie the game at 14 before the main intermission when Collins again crossed the goal line, this time from 3 yards out. Some big plays came in the second half that was to have a determining factor in the game. The Falcons turned the ball over deep in their own territory but after Lake Station had a first and goal from the 3 yard line, the defense held and the visitors kicked a 28 yard field goal that gave them the lead 17-14. After a change of possessions, Lake Station was forced to punt to Glenn once again and this time Doug Hill broke through and got a hand on the punt, giving the Falcons excellent field position on the Lake Station 36. It took just four plays before Nick Medich fired a pass to Rusty Young and the play covered 26 yards for the score
on the first play of the final quarter. A missed extra point try kept Glenn just three points ahead 20-17, a key matter at this point in the game. On the ensuing kickoff, the visitors tried a little razzle dazzle play with a reverse and handoff of the kick and Chris Morris apparently ran down the sideline for another quick TD. However, a clipping penalty called the play back, protecting Glenn's slim three-point lead. The thrills and excitment weren’t over yet, as the visitors once again forged deep into Glenn territory late in the game. This time an apparent touchdown pass from Blankenbeker to Josh O'Dell was also flaggedd back for an illegal block, protecting the Glenn lead one more time. Lake Station then chose to go for a tying field goal, but a 45 yarder was just short. The visitors had one more shot as Glenn was unable to sustain a drive, but a desparation pass late in the game was intercepted by Medich, and the Falcons had escaped with their sectional victory. Statistically, the two teams were very close in almost every’ department. The big plays were crucial, the kickoff return, the blocked punt, the two touchdown passes, they all provided the thrills of high school football.
