NORTH LIBERTY By Gladys Sheneman It turned out to be a beautiful day Sunday after the rain Saturday night so I took Gladys Lavarans for a drive out through Potato Creek State Park and I was really surprised to see how the trees had turned already. It is just gorgeous and no doubt this will will be their best and at their peak. Then we stopped at Eberly’s Orchard and were they ever busy. People were coming and going constantly buying apples and cider. He sure has lovely apples this year and all kinds. This is the week of the revival out at the Church of Christ with Pete Creamer, the evangelist, and Ed Erskin at the piano leading the song service. They are great, so plan now to come to hear them and you will be blessed. A farewell dinner was given Sunday at the Pine Creek Church for their pastor, Rev. Kendall Elmore and family, who are moving DUAN^MAKE’S TREE SERVICE TREE REMOVAL TREE TRIMMING STUMP REMOVAL Estimates Phone (219) 936-6546 Plymouth

to Maryland. Mr. and Mrs. Gensinger and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cohee just returned home from a two week tour of the fall foliage through the New England states with American Dream Tours with Connie Ullery as their tour guide. They saw and visited many interesting places. Just received word that Janet Stombaugh was released from the hospital and brought back to Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, on Sunday. Perle Lappin, who suffered a stroke two weeks ago will soon be moved to Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth. He has improved somewhat. Well, fall is sure here, the leaves are turning and are they ever falling down so that will be the next job, getting rid of all our leaves. I’m sure thankful that the town picks them up now since we can’t burn anymore. Did you attend the Pumpkin Festival in Walkerton? I was there on Friday and 1 never saw so many pumpkins. Must have been a good year for them because as you drive through the country, I have seen lots of pumpkin fields. About 175 Retired Neighbors & Friends met last Tuesday at the Pine Creek Church were all enjoyed another delicous dinner prepared by the ladies of the church. Visitors were Carl and Beulah Smith, of Tucson, Arizona, Esther Reid, of Lakeville, and John Baughman, of Norman, Oklahoma. Several were celebrating birthdays during October and one wedding anniversary. Nina Goon, of Miller’s Merry Manor, had the misfortune of falling and breaking her hip again for the second time. So please remember her. Also Georgiana Buehler who was in an auto accident. The secretary report was
given by Evelyn Dolph and a funny poem was read by Gladys Sheneman, president. Willard Burkholder, of Tyner, gave the noon prayer. Entertainment was organ music by Louise White and slides of the fall in Nova Scotia by Vera Kennedy. Sorry to report that North Liberty lost another great lady, Kathryn Hevel (87), last Wednesday. She was the former co-owner of Ted’s IGA Store for thirty years. Her husband died in 1962. My husband, Claude, delivered him chickens for many years when they had the store. She will be greatly missed by ail her many friends. I will always remember Katie for her friendly smile. Many of you readers will remember Albert D. Huffman, who was born in Tyner, March 14, 1907 and grew’ up there and attended the Tyner Brethren Church as it was called back then. I still remember his parents and family. He passed away in Harbor's Edge Health Care Center, Delray Beach, Florida, where he had been a resident for sometime. He started the H&R Trucking Company back in 1939 and later was the former coowner of Shipper’s Dispatch. He was well known and is going to be greatly missed by ail his friends and loved ones. Our sympathy goes to the Huffman family. I received word Saturday evening that I lost my last second cousin. Lura Dunnick, a sister of the late Fay Dunn, of Walkerton. She was 92 and has been in the Hamilton Grove Nursing Home for the past seven years. She was born in LaPaz and was a lifetime resident till she married Roscoe Dunnick and moved to South Bend. She leaves three daughters. Service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Ridgedale Presbyterian Church. Flora Hough, who has been a resident for the past few months at Pilgrim Manor at Plymouth, returned to her apartment last week and is improving every day. Her son. Joe, arrived last Tuesday from Texas to spent two weeks with her. She is so happy to be back home, but she still needs our prayers, a card or a telephone cal). Bonnie Stickley, of the First Christian Church in Mishawaka, who is their historian, happen to run across two programs of the old Chistian Church here in North Liberty and thought they might be of some interest. The first was the re-dedication service of the Christian Church on September 26, 1943 when R.S. Kilmer was minister. I recognized many of the elders and deacon’s names. Dan Roser is still an active member of the Church of Christ and his wife,

Irene, was the organist. Remember this was 51 years ago. Another program was the Easter service on April 22. 1945 with Charles Sheneman as Bible School superintendent. It also showed three large pictures of the members sitting in the pews which was interesting. So 1 will have them displayed out at the Church of Christ and then put in the library. Daisy Doan, who has been a patient in St. Joseph Medical Center for a week, still is there. Please remember her in your prayers and a cheer-up card. Aletha Croy attended her greatgranddaughter's, Kara Jo Spencer, first birthday party on Sunday. She is the daughter of Tony and Lisa Spencer. About 35 family and friends were present to help her celebrate. A luncheon, cake and ice cream was enjoyed by all
