CELEBRATES 80TH BRITHDAY Dorothy Knowlton was the guest of honor at a party given by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Dennis Ludwig, in Chalfont, Pennsylvania, to celebrate her 80th birthday. Guest included Tom Dewey and Trevor Jones from London, England; Dr. and Mrs. David Plante (Teresa Dewey) and Sarah Re Plante, from Watertown, New York; Mark Dewey and his fiancee, Beth O’Connor, of Newark, Deleware; Louis and Murray Williams, of Addison, Illinois; Karen and Jeff Evans and baby Trevor Evans, of Glendale Heights, Illinois; Bill and Brenda Schultz and sons Geofrey and Westley, of Covington, Tennessee; Winnie and Brent Kaser and son Michael, of Lakeville; Don Nicholas, of Walkerton; and earlier in the week, Bonnie Kropff, of Fort Worth, Texas. The Bill Schultz family and Don Nicholas stayed until Wednesday to explore the Philadelphia area and to see the Bucks County Historical Society and the Mercer Museum where Elaine is employed. Dorothy also wants to thank all her friends and family for the many beautiful cards and gifts sent to her. Eighty sure sounds old, but the alternative is much worse, so thank God for the privilege of living to reach that old age.

GED ON TV PROVIDES “FIRST STEP’’ Adults who couldn’t finish high school when they were young can take the first step toward a better future by enrolling in the GED ON TV program. GED ON TV is a series of 44 half-hour television programs that cover the reading, writing, science, social studies and math an adult will need to brush up on to pass the GED High School Equivalency test. Earning a GED is the first step toward a door that leads to a job, better job, technical training or college. Indiana public television stations will broadcast two lessons each week beginning September 26. The series provides an opportunity for adults who are unable or unwilling to attend a regular adult learning center because of child care or transportation problems, or any other reason, to prepare for the GED tests from the privacy of home. When an adult calls to enroll they will be mailed a packet of information. The s2l course fee covers the cost of three GED ON TV workbooks, pre-tests, newsletters, post-tests and toll free Helpline. Throughout the five month series, students are encouraged to call the “800” Helpline to ask questions about things they don’t understand on the TV or in the workbooks. When the student finishes watching the series of programs and studying the workbooks, they earn a voucher that will pay the $lB cost of taking the GED at any Indiana testing site. Adults wishing to enroll or who would like more information should call right away so there will be time to mail the pre-tests and workbooks before the programs begin. Over 2,750 Hoosier adults have earned a GED by watching GED ON TV on public television. The program is a joint project of the Indiana Public Television Stations, the Indiana Department of Education and Muncie Community Schools. To enroll in GED ON TV adults may call 1-800-248-7999 from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 .p.m. weekdays.
