ELIZABETH C. FERVERDA Elizabeth C. “Bess” Ferverda, 96, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, formerly of 23 South Apartments, died about 1:30 p.m. Friday in the nursing home. Mrs. Ferverda was born May 12, 1898, in Chicago and moved to Walkerton 54 years ago from Chicago. In 1918, in Chicago, as Elizabeth Morrey, she married Jacob Haas. He died in 1942. In 1944 in Walkerton, she married George M. Ferverda, who died November 1970. Mrs. Ferverda was employed at the former Davey’s Jewelry Store. Surviving are a daughter, Jane Chapman, of Walkerton; two stepdaughters, Martha Keeling of Walkerton and Peggy Lummis of [ Nevada City, California; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Haas, of Lakeside, California. A stepson, Charles Ferverda, preceded her in death in August 1970. Mrs. Ferverda was a member of the Walkerton United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 189 and North Liberty Chapter of Order of the Easter Star. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walketon. Burial was in Grovertown Cemetery. GENEVA RICE Geneva Rice, 77, of 20993 Eighth Road, Plymouth, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, in St. Joseph’s Hospital of Marshall Colunty after an illness. Mrs. Rice was born April 16, 1917, in Pulaski County and was a lifelong area resident. On July 15, 1937, in Plymouth, she married Alfred J. Rice. He died September 19,1973. Surviving are two daughters, Mabel Paul and Carol Louderback, both of Grovertown; a son, Everett of Plymouth; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Bridegroom of Sun City, Arizona, Edith Atterberry of Tucson Arizona, and Dorothy Kring of Texas; and two brothers, Harold Malott and Kenneth Malott, both of Tucson. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Burial was in 1.0.0. F. Cemetery, Leiters Ford, Indiana. DALE BEACHEM Dale Beachem, 49, qf South Fellows Street, South Bend, died at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in her home after an illness. Mrs. Beachem was bom April 30, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota and had lived in this area and North Liberty since 1966, coming from Minnesota. On i November 22, 1966, in South Bend,
as Dale Howard, she married Wayne Beachem, who survives. Mrs. Beachem was in the purchasing department of Inlander-Steind-ler Paper Co. since 1980. Also surviving are a son, Stephen, of North Liberty; one grandson; and a brother, Les Howard, of Orlando, Florida. A daughter, Kirby, died in 1982. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc. B. MARGARET ARICK B. Margaret Arick, 71, of Sycamore Road, North Liberty, died at 2:26 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend, after an illness. She was bom January 24, 1923, in Mansfield, Illinois, and lived in North Liberty since 1952, coming from Walkerton. On July 5,1941, in Hattisburg, Mississippi, she married Harold E. Arick, who survives. Mrs. Arick retired in 1991 from Warren School after 31 years service as head cook. Also surviving are three daughters, Sandy Peterson, Diana Mayle and Pamela Grom ski, all of South Bend; a son Williams, of South Bend; 10 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; two great-grand-child-ren; two sisters, Beverly Riddle of South Bend and Helen Radenbanch of Lancaster, California; and a I brother, Warren Longstreth of Argos. She was a member of Ladies Aide of Lydick United Methodist Church, Sunshine Home Ec Club, and was a former Warren Township 4-H leader. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Lydick United Methodist Church. Burial will be Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos. Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend. Reynolds, 67, of 709 George Street, Valparaiso, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday in his home after an illness. Mr. Reynolds was boro January 29, 1927, in Hamlet. On November 21, 1945, in Knox, he married Betty Shearin, who survives. He was retired from Continental Bank of Chicago and was a former agent of Mobil Oil Co., Hamlet. Also surviving are a daughter, Theresa Hensler, of Hamlet; a son, Nicholas of Boston; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Nelda Cadwell of Homeland, California, and Gail Bruce, of North Fort Myers, Florida. Mr. Reynolds was a Navy veteran of World War 11. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Friends may call from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
