Many activities are scheduled for August out at Potato Creek State Park. So check them out and enjoy our beautiful state park. Can you believe that today (Monday) is the first day of August? Our summer will soon be over and the kids will be back in school. Everyone’s garden is really producing now with green beans, tomatoes, pickles, cabbage, onions and especially zucchini, which everyone wants to share with me.

Well, today, August Ist, the 68th St. Joseph Co. 4-H Fair starts. I can remember back when the fair was in North Liberty, then Lakeville, Playland Park and now at its present site. I’ll never forget the dress I made in 4-H at Tyner and then won in Plymouth at the dress review of the county and got to take it to the state fair at Indianapolis. Mae McDaniel and I will be working at the church booth on Wednesday at the fair, so hope to see you. As most of you know, I was raised on a farm and my folks raised layers for eggs and sold them to stores and even shipped some. I called on Enid Liggett last Friday morning and while there, her husband Maurice brought me in from the hen house a carton of eggs and gave it to me for my birthday. 1 opened it up and found some to be white, some to be brown and three to be bluish green. Now I know where the white and brown eggs come from but what color chicken lays these blueish-green eggs and he said his black chickens lays them. Did you know that? So 1 learned something. Well, did you see Mildred Hunter’s picture and the big article about her sky diving. She has made six parachute jumps all over Texas since December 1991. What a thrill that must be. She plans to make her first jump over Indiana in August. A sky diving service from Frankfort, Indiana has agreed to come to the LaPorte airport for the event. So I wish her well and would love to see her come flying through the air. Shawn Singleton, of Atlanta, Georgia, arrived Sunday at the home of his grandmother, Irene Singleton, and will be visiting relatives and friends, while here on vacation. 77 SOFFIT & FACIA J VANDERHEYDEN H EA VESTROUGH SERVICB Call 288-7719 '

SURPRISE PARTY FOR DAVID AND PAM CRAFT Son Byron and daughter Emily and aunt Mary Black planned the party to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of David and Pam Craft. It was held on the grounds of their uncle and aunt, Rhod and Wilma Fraser’s home, at Koontz Lake. Pam and David had no idea what was going on until they were dropped off at the Marina to board a very festive looking pontoon, much like the one that carried them around the lake the day they were married. On board to welcome them was David’s brother and his wife, Ed and Tina Craft, of Kentucky; Pam’s mom, Ruth Black, of Florida; their children, Byron Emily and Sarah, and David’s
