park as they need your help. Tom and Tish McCormick spent the weekend in Chicago. They spent Friday and Saturday night with Jeff and Jill West in Bartlett, Dlinois. They attended the Cub’s game on Saturday and the Venetian Festival and then Saturday evening enjoyed a beautiful display of fireworks put on by the country of Spain with music. Many of you readers remember Vesta DeCoudrds who use to be a resident of North Liberty and now lives at St. Paul’s, is needing your prayers as she is very ill at this writing. Calvin and Clara Mae Kronk who were celebrating their 65th(Wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 26, were dinner guests of their children, Lamar and Dorothy Kronk, Roger and Marge Kronk and daughter, Wilda and husband George at .the Holiday Inn in Plymouth. They will never forget this anniversary due to the rain and water across the roads. Roger had to drive through to get them there. So different from 65 years ago when the temperature was 90 degrees and they were married in the parsonage next to the Christian Church. They didn’t get to go on a honeymoon like they all do today as Calvin had to go to work the next day and Gara Mae went with her mother-in-law to pick cherries. A lot of changes has taken place since way back then.
It turned out to be a Iqvely evening at the North Liberty Park for the Sim’s 40th wedding anniversary open house. Many relatives and friends attended. Please remember Raymond Schieber who is now a resident of the LuAnn Nursing Home in Nappanee. Sorry, I don’t have time to write any more news as I’m cleaning house, baking and getting ready for my son, Dennis, who is to arrive in South Bend on Saturday from California. It has been six years since I last saw him, so I can hardly wait. TRIP TO ALASKA My neighbor had an RV (recreational vehicle) to deliver to Anchorage and was looking for someone to ride along. All it would cost me was what I ate (expensive!) and my return trip. We left Sunday night, June 5, and flew back on Saturday, June 11. We travelled 4086 miles and the Alaska highway is no ‘picnic’! It is at the very best two lanes and at the very worst no lanes. Several places a “leader car” with flashing yellow light had to lead us through the construction areas, no room for a detour. We wore out the two front tires, down to the steel belts. The engine quit in Montana and we had to be towed about ten miles back to Havre. They fixed the short and we were back on the road in about three hours. We went up through Calgary, Edmonton, Grand Prairie, Dawson Creek (where we saw Mile Post O of the Alaska Highway). Then we continued across British Columbia and the Yukon to Tok, Alaska. We slept about three hours and it never got dark. I guess that’s why they call it the Land of the Midnight Sun. We arrived in Anchorage about 12:15 p.m., washed the RV and delivered it and boarded our plane at 2:45 p.m. The trip home was exciting too. We flew from Anchorage to Seattle (saw Mt. Ranier, more about that next month) to Los Angeles, to Cincinnati, to South Bend where our dear wives greeted us at the airport. I told Ken that I had seen the most beautiful and spectacular scenery of my lifetime during our

six days together, but Jan (my wife) looked awfully good to me when we got home. Gale Merrick FINCH-REAMER REUNION The 55th annual Finch-Reamer Reunion was held on June 26th. We were supposed to meet at Lib - erty Park in North Liberty, but with the downpour we decided to go to the Conservation Gubhouse at Koontz Lake. There were 44 present. Richard Eldred, of Riverside, Illinois, gave the blessing and we' then all enjoyed the usual delicious pot luck dinner. The meeting was called to order. Once again the same officers were voted on to keep them in office with the exception of vice-president, Robert Clarke, of Schererville, Indiana, who was voted in. The officers for next year are: presi-
