Treasure Chest Celebrates 15 Years In North Liberty On June 9, 10 and 11, the Treasure Chest, located at 102 N. Main St., in North Liberty, will be clebrating its 15th anniversary. A big celebration is being planned including a storewide 15 cents sale. Flowers will be given to the first 60 ladies and refreshments will be served on June 9 and 10. The Treasure Chest, an inspiration of Carol Saltzgaber, wife of Rev. Gaylord Saltzgaber, then pastor of the North Liberty United Methodist Church, officially opened on June 4, 1979. The first sale was made June 3 to a lady from out of town, who was just passing through. The store is staffed by volunteers from the North Liberty United Methodist Church and is stocked with donations given by local people, out of towners and also those out of state. Items not used are sent on to other organizations. All profits from sales are given to mission projects locally, in the United States and worldwide. No money is given to the sponsoring church. People in need are referred to the store and helped at no cost to them. Store hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You are invited to help us celebrate 15 years of helping do God’s mission work on June 9, 10 and 11. Free Fishing This Weekend For Indiana Residents The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers a great way to kick off summer vacation this year —a free family fishing outing. On Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 Indiana residents don’t need a fishing license to fish on public waters. The weekend is an ideal opportunity to plan a family fishing trip across the state or to a stream down the road. "Free Fishing Weekend is a chance to learn — or re-leam — the enjoyment of fishing," said Bill James, DNR fisheries chief. "We know that people who fish learned the sport from parents, grandparents and friends to took the time to teach them.” James hopes that many of the more than one million Hoosier anglers will take advantage of the weekend to teach their families and friends the excitement and relaxation that fishing provides. In celebration of Free Fishing Weekend, Indiana’s state parks, recreation areas and fish hatcheries are holding special events. Many city and country parks, fishing clubs, sporting goods suppliers and civic organizations throughout the state are also planning fishing events. For more information, contact a nearby state park or the Division of Fish and Wildlife at (317)232-4080.
