luncheon. The tables were beautifully decorated with Betty King’s collection of story book characters. President Barbara Simpson opened the meeting and the devotions were given by Verda Karn, a poem called “Gifts of Butterfiles''. The secretary reported correspondence from Gertrude Oderwald, an honorary member, a note of thanks from Ethel Fields for the flowers sent by the club during her recent bout with flu and also a letter of thanks from the Goodwill Industries for the club’s recent donation. The treasurer reported that the check for the Nursing Scholarship had been mailed. Donations to the Walkerton Library and the Koontz Lake Library were also sent. Alfreda Onika reported that, with the help of the club members, she has been able to send almost four thousand cancelled stamps to the St. Francis Mission in Mississippi. The stamps are used as a fundraiser for the mission. These are all regular projects of the Cub. It was reported that president Simpson had been reimbursed for the expenses of attending the IFC Convention.

The president asked long-time members to relate what they remembered of the club’s activities in earlier years. Mildred Casey, Verda Kam, Alice Walker and Mildred McKesson relate^ interesting and amusing memories of these times. Vice-president Carol Knop described the plans for the summer get-together, a riverboat trip on the St. Joseph River. A tentative date of June 24th is planned. Members will be notified if date is changed. Birthday celebrants were Verda Kam, Ruth Rusch, Barbara Simpson and Pam Kaplowitz. Pam drew the birthday present. Virginia O’Hair, president of the Progress Gub in South Bend, made a very impressive ceremony of installing the new officers. Barbara Simpson was installed as president; Carol Knop as vice-president; Janet Bierly as treasurer; and Shirley Awald as secretary. They will take over their duties at the September 2nd meeting. AREA STUDENTS RECEIVE DEGREES AT 1.U.5.8. A total of 995 lUSB students and 26 Purdue University students are candidates for degrees this year. Participants in the annual Commencement exercises held on Tuesday, May 10, in Century Center, included students who completed their degree work in December, 1993, and May, 1994, and those who are to complete degree work this August. A Master’s degree was conferred on Sheryl Lynn Meilner, of North Liberty. Bachelor’s degrees were conferred on the following area individuals: Joyce Pamela Anderson, Hamlet; Susan Whitaker Bergan, North Liberty; Susanna Marie Lozano, North Liberty; Steven Ross, North Liberty; Marcia A. Vargo, North Liberty; Sandra Kay Anderson, Walkerton; and Dorene Lynn Simpson, Walkerton.

Associates degrees were conferred on the following from the area: Theresa Marie Desimone, Mishawaka; Scott Richard Kwieran, North Liberty; Patricia Ann Erwin, Walkerton; Toni F.
