Couple Celebrates 55th Anniversary k ■ Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wyant, 29300 Lath Trail, North Liberty, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Saturday, May 21 with a family dinner at their home. They were married May 21, 1939 in Valparaiso, Indiana. They have five children, Fred, Ed and Denny, of North Liberty, Sharon Kesler, of North Liberty, and Shirley Kesler, of Missouri City, Texas. They have 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Wyant retired from Elmer Gumz Farms in 1983 and Mrs.

LAPORTE HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES RECEIVE SERVICE AWARDS An annual event during National Hospital Week, is the LaPorte Hospital Employee Awards Banquet which was held May 12 at Beacon Hills. Seventy-one employees received service pins. The monthly Complete Caregivers, selected during 1993 for outstanding performance that furthered the mission of the hospital, were recognized and Glenn Jacob, R.Ph., of Pharmacy Services, was selected as the Complete Caregiver of the Year. LICENSE BRANCHES CLOSED FOR MEMORIAL DAY All Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branches will be closed Saturday, May 28, through Monday, May 30, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Motorists needing to renew a driver's license or vehicle registration this month are urged to visit their local license branch by Friday, May 27. License branches will resume regular business on Tuesday, May 31-
Business Women’s Club Awards Scholarship The Walkerton Business and Professional Women’s Club awarded the first of their two $250.00 scholarships to John Glenn senior Sadie Pairitz. The award was presented on Monday, May 23, at the Glenn annual academic awards night program. Sadie is the daughter of John and Tammy Pairitz. She is planning on pursing a career in computers at Ambassador College. Applicants were chosen on the basis of scholarship, financial need, character, and community service. Members of the scholarship committee were Janet Bierly, Jean Cole and Barb Osowski, chairman. R.E.A.L. SERVICES NEWS WALKERTON Monday Harold and Hazel Schweder were in charge of the books and program. "As the storm raged, the captain realized his ship was sinking fast. He called out, ‘Anyone here know how to pray’? One man stepped forward, 'Aye, Captain. I know how to pray’. 'Good', said the Captain. 'You pray while the rest of us put on our life jacket. We’re one short’.’’ Tuesday Dorothy Taylor presented the program with her singing an old song, "Barbara Allen". She told us about her life, which was interesting. Wednesday Verl Haag, Florence Seekings and Sam Madona were with us singing and playing guitar music. We had a large crowd and was enjoyed by all. Thursday was a quiet day. Juice winners were Donna Shuler and Marilyn Stull. Friday we had our regular sing-a-long with Verice Walz at the piano and Evedene Platz leading the singing. BAKE SALE There will be a Bake Sale on Saturday, May 28th, at Teachers Credit Union in Walkerton and Ist Source Bank in North Liberty. Proceeds will go to the Bth grade AAU girls basketball team to pay for their lodging and food at their tourney June 16-19. Please support these fine young athletes. "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" At W.E.S. May 26 On Thursday, May 26, Miss Peeples’ fourth grade reading class will enthusiastically present the play, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
