Wanda Pontius is making fresh pie everyday and you can even buy soups and sandwiches along with ice cream treats. You may even hear someone playing the old time piano while you have a cup of coffee. Something new in town, try it, you may like it. Bill and Shirley Limerick ate dinner Sunday at Bob Evan’s Restaurant and then drove on to Holland, Michigan where they visited the mall and saw lots of beautiful tulips. ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gouker, who is their nephew, the son of the late Lucille and Robert Gouker. Then all attended a lovely reception dinner immediately following at the Paramont Ballroom in downtown Anderson. Aletha Croy returned Thursday after spending the past two weeks in Birmingham, Alabama with her daughter and grandson, Janice and Phillip Wozny. The weather was great while she was there and since she is back it has been so windy and cold every night and very little rain, which we need so much. Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, participated in the "Chocolate Sunday" benefit to aid Alzheimers research last Thursday. Several brought in chocolate desserts and they were judged by Penny Pansier, Mary Ann Awald, Gene Reese and Dave Behr. Rita Johnson won first prize for a delicious decorated chocolate cake, Marsha Reese won second for her French chocolate pie and Judy Zahrn won third prize for her chocolate turtle pie. There were several other delicious chocolate desserts which the residents had the fun of tasting after the judging was done and all enjoyed that. Many of you readers will remember Lynn Ross, son of Lowell and Eva Ross. He lived in Belton, Texas and had been fighting cancer for the past year. He came home three weeks ago to visit his parents and became ill and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Hospital. He passed away Thursday. He had been a self-employed auto mechanic and former owner of Lynn’s Garage. He was 52 years old and is survived
by a daughter, two son, his parents, his sister Evelyn and four brothers, Devon, Gail, Dean and Kenneth. He was an air force veteran. Military graveside services were held Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Westlawn Cemetery. A large group of relatives and friends attended. Our sympathy goes to the family. Just received word that Henry and Joan Koenig are the proud grandparents of a new baby girl bom to their daughter, Heidi and Frank Lawson, of Ocala, Florida. She was born Monday, May 16 and weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and they named her Jodi Lynn. So congratulations and best wishes from your North Liberty friends and relatives. The Koenigs address is 4724 N.E. 7th Street, Ocala, Florida 34470. They are busy painting their new home, getting new furniture, even picked blueberries and will now be busy helping care for their new granddaughter. Please remember Ross Swihart, who suffered a stroke and is very critical in the hospital. Kenneth Doan had a knee replacement last week in St. Joseph Medical Center and he needs our prayers and a get well card. Many of you know Wayne Johnson, of Koontz Lake, who is also in St. Joseph Medical after suffering a stroke. Remember him. Many of you also know Cecil Moyer who is 91 and did live in Plymouth. She sold her home and last Monday entered Miller’s Merry Manor, in Walkerton to make her home. So please drop in and see her as she loves to see old friends and make new ones. Friends and family are invited to an open house honoring Angela M. Amsbarger on her recent graduation from the College of Nursing, Valparaiso University. Open house will be Sunday. May 22 at Potato Creek State Park, Peppermint Hill from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Many relatives and friends of Tony and Josephine Pasman on Smilax Road, attended their open house for their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday afternoon. A buffet lunch along with a beautifully decorated cake and ice cream was enjoyed by all present. They received many beautiful cards, gifts and flowers and many pictures were taken. Iva Pommert had the misfortune of falling while out in the woods hunting mushrooms with Dorothy Reed. She has injured her ankle so please remember her. Many of you will remember Ellen Carlson, formerly of the North Liberty area, but who has now made her home near her son Neal, in Warsaw for the past several years. She has passed away at the age of 95, and leaves two sons, Neal and Darrell, of North Liberty, three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Our sympathy goes to her family. Alice Brown, of Herscher, Illinois, attended the Church of Christ Sunday morning and then visited the home of Barney and Helen Wentz. The Nature Center at Potato Creek State Park will now be open from 9:00 to 5:00 on Saturday and Sunday. A lot of interesting programs have been planned. Well, can you imagine five teenage girls from North Liberty back in 1924 roller skating on the newly paved State Road 23 to Walkerton? Well, that’s what they did. They are all getting up in years now but they have never forgotten that experience. They stopped and rested a bit once in a while. When they finally reached Walkerton they stopped and had an ice cream cone for 5 cents. Then they rode back to North Liberty on the New York Central Train for 35 cents each. Total cost a for the trip to Walkerton and back to North Liberty was 40 cents each. Those girls were Mary Houser (Jackson), LaVon Felgar (Oglesby), Margaret Bettacher (Fair), Florence Kauffman (Huling) and Mildred Ward
