Pam needs more help so please contact her if interested in restaurant work. The classmates of Tyner High School from 1941 through 1944 met at the Holiday Inn, in Plymouth, last Friday evening with 35 present to enjoy a delicious dinner together. Nick McCombs was M.C. Also present were two of their teachers, Bob Huffman and Virginia (Shaffer) Leland, of Valparaiso. They had a wonderful time reminising about the good old times they have had together while attending Tyner High School. They plan to meet in three years. Mother's Day guests of George and Wilda Henry, of New Road, were her mother, Clara Mae Kronk and husband Calvin, Tom and Darla Fair, Lisa, Ryan and Alan Limerick and Tracy and Joel. present. Just want to say a big thank you to Roger Kronk for setting up and letting the Tyner alumni banquet use his sound equipment. We had no problem hearing this year. Thanks again, Roger. Lowell Gardner, of Oxford, Indiana, Jack and Shirley Norris helped Lola Pavey celebrate Mother’s Day on Saturday at the Dockside Restaurant at Koontz Lake. Pearl and Evelyn Lappin spent two weeks recently visiting their son Jim and family in Arlington, Texas. They enjoyed the trip by Amtrack. They just missed seeing the terrible tornados that hit Texas. About 170 retired neighbors and friends attended the dinner last Tuesday at the Pine Creek Church at the noon hour. There were serveral visitors and many from Florida who are now back. Several were celebrating their birthdays this month and anniversaries. Please remember Darrell Roush, Flora Hough and Beatrice Roush and now we have lost Sara Johnson, who was always present. Secretary’s report was given by Evelyn Dolph after which Vera Kennedy gave the noon day prayer. After a delicious dinner by the ladies of the church all went to the sanctuary where the Marshall Co. Extension Chorus entertained with their musical talent. They have come for the past eight years and we all look forward to having them come as we feel they are a part of our family. Friday night, May 6, the Mother and Daughter banquet was enjoyed by about 160. The delicious dinner was catered by Bob’s Country Store and served by some of the men and boys out at the Church of Christ. After the dinner all went to the sanctuary where they were entertained by a quartet called the Valley Airs and then Glenda Erskin, of Osceola, gave a very interesting talk of life’s charm bracelet and
many wore their charm bracelets with their children’s and grandchildren’s on them. Gail Wyrick, of Bryon, Ohio, had 24 charms on hers which was most interesting. It was a wonderful evening of fun and fellowship. Please remember Flora Hough as she is being moved to the extended therapy unit at St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka. She needs a cheer-up card and your prayers. Her granddaughter, Sheila Ann Haynes, of Dallas, Texas, is here for a week to be with her. Our sympathy goes to Sara Johnson's family. She is going to be greatly missed by all her relatives and friends. She was 76 and lived in Teegarden. Mark and Nancy Noffke and family, of Naperville, Illinois, spent last weekend with John and Gloria Sheneman, on New Road. Saturday dinner guests were Paul and Tina Noffke and family and Kerry Knape and family. On Sunday, Pastor Bill Beyer, of South Bend, of the Bethany Lutheren Church was a guest. The Class of 1954 of Tyner High School had a class reunion at the Tyner Community Building on Sunday, May 8. It was hosted by John McGovern, Sherry Gilmer and Evelyn Fhilts. Twenty-five members of the class were present along with their spouses and four teachers. They were Lea and Beverly Crabbs, Wilma Martin and Mary Ellen Hission, also Dwight Burch, bus driver for 45 years and for many of this class. Graduates came from Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. Bob's Country Store catered the dinner which all enjoyed after which they shared memories and laughs of their school days. Each also received a booklet with news from the school paper when they were seniors and also each classmate had written something about themselves. A great keepsake for everyone. I’m sure this class will never forget their class reunion back in Tyner on May 8, 1994. Bea O’Daffer, of South Bend, spent Saturday night with Gladys Sheneman after they attended the
«hoo, c jo"" VOTERS Thank You We, your newly elected school board members, wish to extend our thanks to the voters for your support and contributions toward our election to the John Glenn School Board. This year’s election echoed the election of two years ago, in that the voting public overwhelmingly supported the candidates and philosophy of quality education with fiscal responsibility. We have heard your voices. While not taking lightly the responsibility of providing quality education for the students of John Glenn School Corporation, we realize we also have a responsibility to the taxpaying public. We vow to weigh both responsibilities in our decision making processes as your school board members. Your new school board members DAVID GENSINGER 808 SCHAEFFER BEN SMITH

Tyner alumni banquet. On Sunday, after attending church, Norma and Gene Patrick arrived, picked them up and drove to a little park on the St. Joseph River in Niles, Michigan where they enjoyed a picnic dinner prepared by the Patricks. After that they drove to Fem wood on 13988 Range Line Road and took a tour of some of God’s beauty he has put on this earth. The trees in bloom were gorgeous. There are eight acres of landscape gardens, 40 acres of acre arboretum, 5 acres of prairie and 50 acres of woodland nature preserve with trails. It was a perfect day to walk the trails and see flowers, herbs, all kinds of unusal plants and trees of all kinds. It was very educational and thousands of people go there every year. Admission is $2.00 for seniors, $3.00 for adults and children 5 and under, free. It is a very relaxing place to visit and they even serve free lemonade and cookies. Please remember Roland Sheneman in your prayers as he just returned home today after undergoing a double heart bypass last week in St. Joseph Hospital. Two hundred and seventy Tyner graduates attended the Tyner Alumni Banquet last Saturday evening held in Tyner at the Community Building and Fire Station. The 1954 class in charge did a wonderful job, the tables were beautifully decorated and many came at 5:00 to register and enjoy the fellowship and meet old classmates once again and see their class pictures in the Community Building. and they were great. The invocation was given by Charles Killian. The dinner was catered by Joyce Lemert and her helpers and served by 16 young people from the Tyner United Methodist Church. Entertainment was reminiscing of Tyner school days by Wilma Martin, who was a teacher for years and even taught some at Teegarden. Gladys Sheneman told it had been 62 years since she graduated back in 1932 and that a lot of changes had taken place in the world since, she started to school in the first grade at Cudney School. Carl Ketchem, Zelma Nash and Glen Bottorff were her teachers. After five they were bused to Tyner where she went to school over the post office for a year with Olga Kebert, teacher, and then went into the portable in the 7th and Bth grade with Vera Klinedinst as teacher. She then entered the new high school as a freshman and graduated in 1932. Bertha Haag, our art teacher, who had a great talent, published a book of poems in 1976 and called it “A Little Os This and Some of That.” Gladys read her poem on success, which really bought back memories of her. The 50 year class was introduced and all sang the Tyner school song in closing. 25 Yetrs 01 Prolesstonol i Personot Service • UPHOLSTERY • CARPETING | * BOATS s IfeS® : S ES W (219) 586-2745 or (219) 324-4942 Cxi 6 00 a m • 12 00 pm ELLIOTT FRASH, O.D.
