Mr. Kaufman, principal at North Liberty Elementary School, reported that Kelly Harrington, Art teacher, received two grants totaling $5,000 in value to study art this summer and 60 people helped plant 700 trees on April 30 for the Outdoor Lab. Mr. Shuler, principal at John Glenn High School, announced that the 1994 valedictorian is Michele Pondo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Pondo, of 19536 W. 6th Road, Plymouth. Salutatorian for 1994 is Steve Snell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lew Snell, of 69421 Sweetbriar Road. Walkerton. Tom McCormick made a motion, seconded by Janice Ryan, to approve Ray & Kenny's donation of $257.04 to Urey Middle School. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. NEW BUSINESS 1. Approve Resignation of Janice Curtis, Assistant Volleyball Coach at John Glenn High School, Effective End of 1993-94 School Year A motion was made by Tom McCormick, seconded by Rob Keck,to approve the resignations of Michelle Stull as Chapter One Aide at Walkerton Elementary School effective April 22, 1994 and Janice Curtis as Assistant Volleyball Coach at John Glenn High School effective at the end of the 1993-94 school year. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 2. Approve Maternity Leave Request for Laurie Morris Effective August 22, 1994 through January 16.1995 A motion was made by Janice Ryan, seconded by Tom McCormick to approve the maternity leave request for Laurie Morris effective August 22, 1994 through January 16, 1995. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 3. Appointments a. Approve the Appointment of Sharon Harasewicz as Chapter One Aide at Walkerton Elementary School b. Approve the Appointment of Tammy Gustafson to Provide Homebound Instruction for Michael Albert c. Approve the appointment of Celeste Dooms as Head Cook at Walkerton Elementary School. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 4. Approve Textbook Adoptions for the Following Subject Areas: Business Education, Driver Education, Agricultural, Art. Music, Computer and Home Economics Following the presentation by Dick Kickbush who coordinated the textbook adoption process, Tom McCormick made a motion, seconded by Shirley Anderson, to ap-
prove the textbooks listed for adoption for business education, driver education, agricultural, art, music, computer, home economics and industrial technology, with appreciation to the parents and teachers who helped with the textbook evaluation and adoption process. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 5. Approve the Position of HalfTime Middle School Media Specialist Miss Ross, Media Coordinator, Mr. Reese, Urey Middle School principal, and Mr. McKee presented a recommendation that a half-time Media Specialist position be created at Urey Middle School. A Media Specialist will provide services to the students and teachers at Urey that are presently available in the other John Glenn Schools, will increase the utilization of the media center as an instructional resource which is becoming more vital as technology is increasingly incorporated in the curriculum, and will be very beneficial in the planning for a new media center. Following questions about the need for a full-time verses a part-time Media Specialist, the possibilities of finding a qualified applicant and other related questions to the proposal, Dan Patrick made a motion, seconded by Shirley Anderson, to approve the position of a half-time Media Specialist for the middle school. The motion was approved by a seven to zero vote. 6. Approve the Advertisement for Bids for the Storage Room Addition to Walkerton Elementary School Jack Swindell and Chuck McCoy with Fanning/Howey Architects presented a plan for adding a 900 square foot storage area to Walkerton Elementary School that will be used for the storage of tractors and mowers that are presently kbeing stored in the boiler room, chair racks that are presently being stored in the gym apd hallways, and will serve as a receiving area for shipments. The insurance company and OSHA have recommended for several years that another area be provided for storage of lawn mowers and trac-
