John Glenn Golf Team Record 10-2 After splitting a match with North Wood and Bremen April 27, Glenn went on to win the Marshall County golf Tournament Saturday and then defeated Goshen, LaVille and Argos at the Plymouth Country Gub Course. Wins Marshall County Meet The John Glenn Golf Team won the 1994 Marshall County Golf Tournament for the first time since 1973 which was also the year Glenn won its only sectional crown. The Falcons led by five strokes after the first nine at the Culver Military Academy Course before moving to the second nine at Maxinkuckee Golf Course. Most of the day was cool and rainy, but the Glenn tream held off a late LaVille charge and won with the 355 total. LaVille placed second at 361 followed by Culver 364, Bremen 379, CMA 380, Argos 409 and Triton 443. Sophomore Biran Lyle shot a matching pair of 42's for an 84 to win the medalist trophy as well as a place on the All-Marshall County Team. Steve Savoie placed on the All-

County team in third with an 87 and Jayson Kincaid placed on the All-County Team with an 89, good for a tie for fifth. Congratulations to the team on their championship. Glenn will travel to Jimtown to play Bent Oak Golf Course Thursday. Saturday the Falcons will participate in the LaVille Invitational at Sprig-O-Mint. Glenn Wlna Four-Way At the Plymouth Country Gub Brian Lyle again led the Falcons with a 41. Glenn teammates followed with a 43 by Steve Savoie, 44 by Jayson Kincaid, 46 by Landon Wiegand and a 47 by Rocky Plummer for a 174 total. The fourway match victory raised the Falcons record to 10 wins and two defeats. The Glenn JV suffered a double defeat. Goshen tallied a 202 to LaViHe's 214 and Glenn’s 217. Nathan Cripe finished with a 50 followed by Jackson at 51, Linback 57, Schmeltz 59 and Don Payne 67. ATTEND GRADUATION Adam and Louise Mann, Walkerton, and Jack and Shirley Norris, North Liberty, were in Indianapolis Saturday to see their grandson, Perry Leigh Mann, graduate from the University of Indianapolis. Also attending were Perry’s parents, Adam and Sheryl Mann, Katie Elizabeth, of Bremen, and Casey Mann, of Butler University. Perry played number one singles and number one doubles on the University Tennis Team. He set a school record of 54 wins in four years. The University won the G.L.V.C. Conference for three years in a row. Perry graduated with a bachelor of science degree. SENIOR CARD CLUB NEWS The Walkerton Senior Card Club winners last week were, Tuesday in euchre: first, Morris Searfoss 80; second, Ruth Ullery 79; third, Leon McKesson 70; and fourth, Helen Verkier 69. The pinochle winners on Thursday were: first Helen Verkier, 687; second, Cheryl Rizek 665; third, Martha Young 612; fourth, Milner Capes 600.
BETTER HOMES CLUB MEETS The Better Homes Gub met April 25th in the home of Cheryl Flaugher. Nine answered roll call with good housecleaning hints. Our president, Norma Eddinger, led us with the pledge to our flag and the dub creed. The secretary’s minutes were read by Mary Hahn and the treasurer's report by Nancy Stickley. A donation was given to the United Methodist Church as a memorial to our long standing dedicated member, Martha Mull. We sang the anniversary song for Gerri Ruby. The new by-laws from the home extension office were read and accepted. Four ladies attended the Spring Fling. They were Marty Malstaff, Gerri Ruby, Nancy Stickley and Mary Hahn. Gerri reported on the big event held at the Esther Singer building at the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds. The dtizenship report was given by Mary Hahn. She told the importance of Earth Day and how it was celebrated by different groups. We all have a very important part in keeping our earth in good condition. She also reminded all to vote. The club voted to again sell homemade cookies during the Fall Festival. Members have quilt tickets to sell on the homemade

quilt that will be given away during the Fair. Our guest speaker was Mrs. Juanita Searfoss, from South Bend. She presented the American Cancer Society through the Home Extension Office. She was helping to get the news out about breast cancer. Our next meeting will be May 23rd at the home of Alice Walker. Norma Eddinger won the door prize. Our hostess served delicious refreshments. The meeting was closed with our club prayer. LOCAL STUDENT EARNS PHI BETA KAPPA HONORS AT DEPAUW UNIVERSITY Byron McGregor Craft, the son of David H. and Pamela M. Craft, of 201 S. Williams Street, North Liberty, a 1991 graduate of John Glenn High School, has had Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honors conferred on him. He is among 33 seniors and five juniors elected to the distinguished scholastic tyCraft is majoring in music/business at DePauw. Selection to the honorary society represents the highest academic honor possible in the liberal arts and is based on the student’s college grade point average. It is surprising what a compliment will do.
