A special thank you goes to Mr. Dan Hutton, LaPorte, who was our highlighted artist. Thanks also to the public who showed their support for this project. Epsilon Chi will hold their May meeting on Thursday, May 5, at which time pledging will take place. Our telephone committee will be contacting members as to time and place of the meeting. Community Club Enjoy Annual Breakfast Meeting The GFWC Walkerton Woman’s Community Club met at Al’s Diner at Koontz Lake on April 15th. After a delicious buffet breakfast, Barbara Simpson, president, called the meeting to order with Carma Larson giving the opening prayer. Neoma Personette gave the devotions. The drawing for the afghan raffle was next and Shirley Awald won the pretty prize that was made by Mildred Nolcheff and donated to the club. The president than gave a report on the IFC Convention in Indianapolis which she and vice-president Carol Knop had attended on March 28th and 29th. They had breakfast with Hugh O’Brian of the movies who now heads the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation. Guest speaker for the breakfast was Roman Brehm, of the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Brehm related that in 1982 the Town of Walkerton was one of those small towns throughout the country that was slated to become extinct because there were no funds available to revamp their economy. He cited the improvements made when people of the Town decided they were going to bring their town back to life themselves. This took the cooperation of many citizens. Improvements in sewer lines, better water supply, new sidewalks, street lights and storefront renewals were some of the changes made. He told what was still left to do and how they need all the help they can find to achieve that. Some of Walkerton factories were enlarged and more workers hired and a new plant is scheduled to open soon which will hire over 200 people. "We don’t get into politics", Brehm said, "we just all work together". Together they have set up work-related classes for those seniors who are not planning to go to college and adult education classes for people wanting their G.E.D. Among those who have helped financially and otherwise
