Only through the prayer and repentence of Americans everywhere can our nation hope to be restored to the land envisioned by our forefathers. The National Day of Prayer is similar to Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July. It’s a national day and a privilege to pause and ask God to heal our land. The law states (P.L. 100-307, 102 Stat. 456) "The President shall set aside and proclaim the first Thursday in May in each year as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.” Several churches in our community will be open to the public on this special day for prayer. The following churches have sponsored this article to encourage your participation in the National Day of Prayer, and will be open for prayer throughout the day on Thursday, May 5: St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish, Walkerton United Methodist Church, Walkerton Wesleyan Church, Walkerton Presbyterian Church, Walkerton First Assembly of God, Walkerton Presbyterian Church, Walkerton First Assembly of God and Blissville Church of the Brethren. As we truly "humble ourselves before God”, we know that He will "hear us in heaven”, and "heal our land”. ATTENDS NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CHRISTIAN UNITY CONFERENCE Representing the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church at the National Workshop of Christian Unity was the Rev. Dr. Donald Charles Lacy. Dr. Lacy is the Chairman of the Commission on Christian Unity and In-ter-religious Concerns. The workshop was held in Providence, Rhode Island April 11 - 15th. The theme was "Called To Be One In Heart And Soul”. Among the topics of discussion was the ReImagining Conference held in Minneapolis last November and the influence of radical feminism on traditional Christianity. Major participants were Roman Catholics, United Methodists, Episcopalians, Lutherans and Presbyterians. Dr. Lacy is celebrating 20 years in leadership roles in Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns at the local, state and national levels. He said "Our greatest challenge is to preserve the historic, revealed Faith in the Holy Scriptures and at the same time be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit in the call to be One." The target shell — four feet long and weighing 500 pounds — is that of the giant clam of the South Pacific Ocean.

SERVICES NEWS WALKERTON Monday is usually a hard day for everyone after the various activities of the weekend. Some of us are very tired and maybe cross, even though we have problems (everyone has them), we need to get away from ourselves and enjoy what is before us. Bring a friend to REAL Services with you and enjoy our program with Harold Schweder, our welcoming committee, who also takes care of the books, with Hazel telling us some short stories and jokes, also prayer before the meal. I guarantee you will feel better! "Father was talking to his son that he should marry someone who has simUar interests, religion and family backgrounds. The boy said, Dad you should know that opposites attract. The father shook his head and said, Just being boys and girls is opposite enough.” Tuesday Dorothy Taylor gave the program with songs and funny stores. Dorothy wears various costumes when she entertains. Wednesday Jessie Schaeffer had the program with Library Humor such as: Her hair looks like an explosion in a mattress factory. He looks like a sack of cats going to the river, etc. Thursday Dorothy Taylor sang old songs with us joining her. Friday we had our regular sing-a-long with Verice Walz at the piano and Evadene Platz leading the singing.
