Performing Arts Series sponsored by the Plymouth Arts Commission. Tickets are available by calling the PAC office at (219) 935-4987. An actress like no other, Cloris Leachman is a true master of her craft and after forty years of acting, six Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, an English Academy Award, and an Oscar, she still enters each role with a passion for discovery. Cions knew she wanted to play Anna Mary Robertson Moses as soon as she heard that Stephen Pouliot was writing a play about her. For most of her life. Moses devoted herself to keeping house and fattening the family's inoime by selling homemade butter and potato chips; she satisfied her creative urges by adding decorative touches to walls, furniture, clothing and her butter. Moses took up a brush only in her early 70's when her arthritic fingers became too stiff to hold an embroidery needle. “Grandma lived like I’ve lived," Leachman says. "Family is most important, but there's also an independence. a desire to be out there, to be exceptional."

In the nearly thirty years since Anna Mary Robertson Moses died at the age of 101, fact has mingled with fancy to give her career an almost ledendary aura. The notion of a painting grandmother so captivated the American imagination, that today her nickname has become almost a generic term. Often imitated, her achievement has never been equaled. Grandma Moses stands alone in the history of American art. “Grandma Moses: An American Primitive" is a two-act play about the life of Grandma Moses and has two actors playing eight different characters. The play focuses on two points in Grandma's life, and when it opens in 1905, Cloris plays Grandma at age 45 when she and her husband were about to leave their Virginia farm to return to their native New York. During intermission, Cloris "ages" 55 years and plays the painter in 1960 when she celebrated her 100th birthday. Come and spend the evening with the talented Cloris Leachman and learn about the life of Grandma Moses. “Grandma Moses: An American Primitive", is a story about 19th century farm life in America, about the traditional values, forth rightness, and a sense of humor. And most of all, it is about the wisdom produced by a lively, creative spirit, no matter what age. SERVICE NOTES NAVAL TRAINING CENTER, Orlando, Fla. — Army Pvt. Jamie R.
