(HNN) — The saturation of Saturday morning TV commercials with beguiling things to eat for kids, loaded with fat, are creating a strong yearning in children to stuff on them, reports Health News Network, the news service of the Indiana Association of Osteopathic Physicians 4 Surgeons. Such commercials have doubled in 1993. The percentage of high-fat foods advertised rose to 41% from 16% between 1989-93. Eighteen percent of beverages, 40 percent of candy and 90% of packaged and fast foods were high in fat. Most low-fat foods were cereals loaded with sugar. This information was given to doctors attending the American Heart Association 66th Scientific Sessions. Dr. Thomas Stare of Columbia University said kids meals lure children with toys. He commented "the fast food advertising could just as easily offer a toy with the salad!"
