grade point average of 3.95 or better." Megan Hamilton from Howard County won the position of 1994 Indiana's Junior Miss. She received over SB,OOO in scholarships, a SI,OOO wardrobe from JC Penny’s, a watch, Kodak 35 mm camera, savings bond, and a chance to compete in America's Junior Miss in Mobile, Alabama, this summer. Her thoughts of the program were, “It’s given me hope for the future because I met 36 very neat girls who all have a lot ot offer the world, and I know every one of them will be successful." To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Junior Miss in Frankfort, all past state winners were invited back to appear during the program. Including the first Indiana's Junior Miss from 1960, over half of the past winners appeared, traveling from as far as Boston and Alabama. Junior Miss is a scholarship program promoting personal excellence. rather than being a “beauty pageant". There is no bathing suit category. Another differing factor is the Creative and Performing Art instead of a typical "talent" category. Judging focuses on creativity, costume, and delivery — only 5% is based on the technical ability of the contestant. Also, one half of the judging occurs off-stage, consisting of an interview by a panel of judges and scholastic acheivement. Becca Van Wechel is shown presenting her Creative and Performing Art, 20% of the on-stage competition. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY In the home of Grace Adkins on Sunday afternoon, the Adkins clan gathered to help celebrate the birthday of brother Sonny Vandall. Those attending were Grace Adkins, Charles and Reatha Vandall, Frank and Margarent Steinhofer, Don Adkins, and Donna and Hollie Gouker.
