We Love You, MISS PEEPLES CLASS KIDS WHO SMOKE ALSO BOOZE IT UP! (HNN) — A survey of 20,000 Indiana students, grades 5-12, revealed that kids who smoke heavily also drink heavily, reports Health News Network, citing a recent study detailed in the Journal of Public Health. Cigarettes seem to be the "gateway drug" for youngsters who move on to booze and drugs. The study found that non-smokers seldom binge drink while 39% of kids who smoke two packs of cigarettes a day binged 10 times in just 14 days. "This cannot be coincidence," said researcher Mohammad Torabi of Indiana University in Bloomington. The study also found: • Pack-a-day smokers were 45 • Were 79 times more likely to use cocaine; • Were 10 times more likely to use inhalants. Commented William Bailey of Indiana Prevention Resource Center "if parents and teachers see that kids are smoking a pack a day, it really should be a signal that these kids are a special risk!” The findings of the study were presented to the American Public Health Association at a recent conference in San Francisco, reports HNN, the news service of the Indiana Association of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons. RETIREES SHOULD KEEP BUSY ... BUT NOT TOO BUSY Many people are busier after retirement than when they worked full time and they can bring on stress at a time when they should be enjoying their senior years, reportes Health News Network, the news service of the Indiana Association of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons. After retirement many people try to do everything they had wanted to do — including public service. But many become stressed-out because they get caught-up in the mind-set that just because something needs doing, they personally have to do it. If you always volunteer to do it, nobody else will try. Good Advice — You should be busy about some things, but not everything! Good planning will help you avoid stress. There is an old Chinese saying that goes: ' Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone." (Lin Yutang). GRISSOM AIR PARK MUSEUM TO BECOME STATE HISTORIC SITE Recent action by the Natural Resources Commission allows a collection of historic planes and related structures at Grissom Air Force Base, near Peru, to become a state historic site. The commission voted to accept Grissom Air Park Museum as a state historic site, provided certain conditions are met. The 17 historic aircraft are on loan from the United States Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Held. Provisions for upkeep of the aircraft must be made before Grissom Air Force Base is realigned to a reserve installation in October 1994. If no acceptable arrangements are made, the planes will be shipped to museums and air parks in other states. The aircraft include a restored Hying Fortress and a B-25, one of the types of planes used by General Doolittle in his raid on Tokyo. Also on display is a TB-58 Hustler, one of eight which remain in the nation. A number of other planes date from the cold war era and from the Korean, Vietnam and Desert Storm

conflicts. The Division of State Museums & Historic Sites can receive the property under the federal surplus land program. The Indiana State Museum will provide the technical oversight necessary to satisfy the museum loan requirments of the United States Air Force Museum. According to Dr. Richard Gantz, director of the state museum system, "the property offers a number of development possibilities. Specific plans would call for intrepretation of Indiana's involvement in the defense of the nation from the start to the end of the cold war era." The division intends to lease operation of the property to the Heritage Museum Foundation, a local non-profit organization. The arrangement requires the Heritage Museum Foundation to raise $75,000 and hire a full-time director/curator as required by the United States Air Force Museum. The venture has received full support of the local community, the Department of Natural Resources, Grissom Air Force Base, area legislators and Governor Evan Bayh. "Indiana has played a vital role in the development of civilian and military aircraft from the very beginning to today's research at the Naval Avionics Center and production of important aviation components," Governor Bayh said. "This state historic site is a significant acquisition." Lt. Governor Frank O'Bannon hailed the action by the Natural Resources Commission stating, "Grissom Air Park is an important historic resource which should be retained within Indiana. The state is providing the framework and some of the tools necessary to save these artifacts which are significant to central Indiana and the world beyond. We are hoping that local communities will make the most of this opportunity.” The state museum system maintains 17 historic sites located throughout Indiana, as a division of the Department of Natural Resources. ” * * RAPID WEIGHT LOSS CAN BE FUTILE!
