Did you happen to recognize John Dooms picture in the happy ads when he was a little boy and to think now he is 40 and his son looks exactly like him. He was very much surprised on Saturday evening when about 60 relatives and friends came to help him celebrate his 40th birthday. A chili bar, relish trays and snacks were enjoyed by all present. hosted the party. Happy 40th birthday, John, from all your many friends. The volunteers of Miller’s Merry Manor enjoyed their Christmas get together last Tuesday evening in the social room. A delicious luncheon was enjoyed by all present. Mary Jo, activity director, praised all the volunteers for all their talents they had given the residents in 1993. She also read a poem about volunteers. Judy had a contest to see how well we know the Christmas carols. Alice Dipert was chosen volunteer of the year. She has been a volunteer for over three years and is 80 years old. Group volunteers of the year award went to Violet Wolff, Maxine Worthington, Dorothy Saylor, Gerald Kaufman, Herbert Hanneman, Dorothy Miller, Bernice Jonas and Maxine Lonzo. Vi and Maxine have been entertaining for the past 17 years. Several won door prizes and all were given a Christmas decoration for their tree. Thanks to Mary Jo and Judy for a fun evening and all your volunteers wish you a very Mery Christmas. A huge crowd attended Gell Fout’s sale on Saturday. Even an old neighbor girl came from North Carolina, Elaine (May) Colward. Many came from Michigan and Ohio also. A big thank you goes to the following volunteers from the area who went to Ottuma, lowa, to help rebuild some of the homes that were flooded this summer during that terrible flood disaster. Some who went were Joyce and Elmer Halt, Henry Koenig, Jr., Robert Moyer, Raymond Hartsough and Evan Fry who will continue to be director of the work crews during November. According to the diary of Mary Johnson of 100 years ago, they really had snow the Ist, 2nd and 3rd of December, up to 18 inches of
snow and huge snow banks, drifting snow and the temperature was zero. So we better not complain about our weather for the first week of December. The following neighbors of Martha McCrosky met at her home Monday afternoon for a fun afternoon. Those present were Iva Pommert, Mae McDaniel, Gladys Sheneman, Pearl Newcomb and Mary Morey and granddaughter, Holly. Lovely refreshments were served before returning home. Henry and Joan Koenig spent Thanksgiving week with their daughter, Heide and her husband, Frank Lawson, in Ocala, Florida. The United Methodist Church had a reception for their new pastor, Rev. Fred Stayton and family, on Sunday morning following the worship service. Cake, punch and coffee were served. We welcome them to our friendly town and hope they like it here. Please remember to call me with your Christmas news. 1 can’t write news for you to read if you don’t let me know. My telephone number is 656-8960. Please remember Dewey O'Connor who is critically ill at this writing and also remember Sally Wilcox as they need our prayers. WALKERTON UNITED METHODIST CHRISTMAS MUSICAL Christmas has probably become the most widely-celebrated holiday in history and continues to be everyone's favorite holiday of the year. This season has become a confusing mixture of scripture, history, pagan ideas, and legends mixed with ignorance and confusion. Inspired by this seeming lack of reverence for the One who came to redeem the world, Lanny Wolfe has created a Christmas musical, celebrating the birth of the Christ Child. On Sunday, December 19, the Walkerton United Methodist Adult
