John Glenn Schools Set Kindergarten Roundup Dates The John Glenn School Corporation Kindergarten Roundup will be held at North Liberty and Walkerton Elementary Schools on March 30 and April 1. The North Liberty Elementary School will hold their Roundup Tuesday, March 30, 7:00 p.m. at the North Liberty Elementary School. The Walkerton Elementary School will hold their Roundup on Thursday, April 1, 7:00 p.m. It is very important that all perents of children who will be five on or before June Ist attend. The school asks the children not to attend this meeting. During the orientation night parents will: — Complete registration forms; — Have birth certificates checked; — Sign up for a kindergarten screening, North Liberty April 22 and 23 and Walkerton April 27, 29 and 30; — Receive dental and health information and forms; — Meet other parents to discuss

UREY CHESS TEAMS QUALIFY FOR STATE COMPETITION

The Urey Middle School Chess teams competed in the regional chess tournament at Michigan City on Saturday, March 6. Urey’s Bth grade A team, consisting of T. J. Jackson, captain; Dale Groves, Knight Wennerstrom and Robert Spychaiski finished fourth overall with 4 team points and 14 individual wins. Urey's Bth grade B team, with members Michael Goldt, captain, Aaron DeGroff, Ted Clark, Jina Shepherd To Receive Award — —— —X ** * Terry Shepherd, of Walkerton, has been selected to receive the Excellence in Education Award for a graduate student in special education for Indiana University at South Bend. He will be honored for this at the university’s Sixteenth Annual Division of Education Brunch on March 28. He has also made the Dean’s List for the past three semesters. Shepherd has been teaching at Oregon-Davis Jr. Sr. High School for the past three years and until recently, has been the only high school teacher for the emotionally handicapped in the ten school J.E.S.S.E. cooperative. He has been involved locally in Cub Scout Pack 293 and is a member of Calvary Baptist Church in LaPaz. WALKERTON LITTLE LEAGUE SIGN-UP DATES EXPANDED The Walkerton Little League sign-up for T-Ball, minor and major league will be held at the Walkerton Youth Building on the following expanded dates: Wednesday. March 10. 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13 — 10:00 a m. - 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20 — 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. There is a 55.00 late registration fee after March 20th. The three Urey teams competed in five rounds of play along with 38 other teams from Indiana. The top 8 teams in the Bth grade and under division qualified for the state tournament. Urey’s Bth grade A & B teams qualified for the state tournament which will be held in Terre Haute on March 27. Robert Spychalski was undefeated in five rounds of plav and Blake Klinedinst was undefeated in four rounds of pla>. Brandon Liggett, Ted Clark and Knight Wennerstrom each had four wins and one loss. Those with 3'/i wins for the day were Robbins and DeGroff. Jackson and Long both had 3 wins each. The teams are coached by Lisa Cox.
