Rusch. After enjoying their sack lunches and the delicious desserts, the business meeting was opened by the president, Barbara Simpson. Mildred McKesson, the secretary, read a letter from Lisa Savoie of Walkerton to Verice Walz, a member. She thanked the club for their financial help in pursuing her nursing career. Shirley Awald, Public Affairs Chairman, asked the club’s help to furnish books for very young children to be read to them at the nursery school at the Methodist Church in Walkerton. These should be brought to the club meeting on April 2nd. The telephone committee will remind the members. A new program being sponsored by the GFWC clubs pertaining to the selection of special teachers for special honors was discussed and found favor with the members. However, it was decided that we should wait until the beginning of the new term next fall to launch the project. Two former members of the Walkerton club have recently passed away. A moment of silent prayer was held for Ethel Bierly and Elsie Elder. Donations will be sent to their favorite charity. Members brought prizes for the bingo game at the nursing home on February 19. Both members of the Sunshine Committee, Josephine Nowakowski

and Marian Ogle are not available, Josephine because of her health and Marian has resigned the club. Geraldine Schuller was graciously volunteered to take on the duties of sending cards and letters to those members who are ill or have lost a member of their family. The president asked that those members planning to attend the conference on March 13 in Mishawaka let her know so reservations can be made. The club has lost many of its older members and would welcome new members. It is an active club and very socially compatible. Anyone interested in becoming amember of the 72 year old federated club can call the Membership Chairman, Janet Bierly at 586-3409 or one of her committee, Alfreda Onika at 5863972 or Freida Meyer at 586-7524. The General Federation of Women’s Gubs has members all over the world. The Walkerton club is part of the 13th District, covering most of Northern Indiana. Their projects are those that benefit young children, promote better education, support libraries and encourage enterprise and progress among the younger generation.
