Chuck and Jean Byland just returned home after spending the last 2*4 months in Tampa Bay, Florida, where they made a lot of new friends and really enjoyed the beauty and weather while there. Albertus Drake still remains in Memorial Hospital, so please remember him. Ethel Rauen and Ethel Holmes were dinner guests last Wednesday of Gladys Sheneman. The special was fried mush. Have you had any this winter? It was really good with homemade sausage and good old fried potatoes. When my folks use to butcher in the winter time, my mom would cook cornmeal and we would have it with milk and sugar for supper. The next day she would fry it. It, too, is almost a thing of the past. The members of the Beaver Creek Church enjoyed a Valentine carry-in dinner Saturday evening at the church. They also honored seven of their members who have been members over 45 years. They were Richard and Betty Shade, Bob and Mildred Gingenpeel, Glen and Pearl Wright, and Arlene Ross. They were all presented a lovely scroll made by Mrs. John Gouker. Henry Koenig was surprised on his birthday while visiting at his daughter, Heide’s, in Florida, when 60 relatives and friends arrived to help him celebrate his birthday. He will never forget his
birthday party in Florida. Many relatives and friends attended the retirement open house for George Henry on Saturday afternoon held at the Church of Christ Family Center. The tables were beautifully decorated and George received lots of cards and gifts. Guests were present from Dorr, Michigan, Huntington, Warren, North Webster, South Bend, Mishawaka and the surrounding area. Rev. Brian and Nancy Henry and daughters, Charity and Carrie, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, arrived on Friday to spend some time and attend the open house for his father. Lots of pictures were taken and many enjoyed the table laden with pictures of all the schools he had helped build and he even worked on the Marriott Hotel. He really does deserve to retire and live it up now. Jim and Audrey Reed, of Nokomis, Florida, has spent the past two weeks with his mother, Dorothy Reed. On Saturday evening, February 6 they all enjoyed their late Christmas get-together at Brandon Reed’s home in South Bend. Others present were Craig Reed and family, of Walkerton. Jim and Audrey will return to Florida oh Friday. Gladys Sheneman was a Sunday dinner guest of Louise Grenert. In the afternoon they attended the surprise party on Woodrow Cochran for his 80th birthday held at the Tyner Lodge Hall. His family and many other relatives were all present when he arrived at the noon hour to enjoy dinner with him and help him celebrate his birthday. His son. Bill, even flew in from Florida and surprised his dad. This is one birthday Woodrow won’t forget. Remember the North Liberty Lions and Greene Lions Gub are having a ham and bean supper this Saturday evening, February 13, to benefit the fire department and ambulance fund. Plan now to
