GLENN TOPPLES MARIAN KNIGHTS BY 52-47 SCORE The John Glenn Falcons won their 15th game of the season Friday night as they invaded the home court of the Mishawaka Marian Knights and came home with a lowscoring 52-47 victory. The Falcons of Gordon Mosson pulled to a lead early in the game, held it the whole way and held off the charging Knights in the second half to record their 15th victory in 18 tries this season. Balance was again a key for the Falcons as the starters scored all but two of the Falcons points while Marian didn't enjoy this balance on their squad. Aaron Casteel, Jason Groves and Toby Gardner all hit two baskets in the first period with one of Casteel's being a threepointer, to pace the 15-8 first period lead. Marian just couldn’t get untracked, but both teams were somewhat bothered by the defense of their opponents. By halftime this lead was slightly stretched to 27-17 in the slow scoring game. Marian managed to stay within range in the second half and slowlycut away at the Falcons lead, only they were never able to catch up with Glenn. The patient Falcons were too much for the Knights to overcome as they just couldn’t get out of the hole they had dug for themselves with the 17 point effort in the first half. By the end of three, however, they had trimmed the lead to six, 37-31, but the visiting Glenn team managed to hold on for the victory. For the game, Gardner, the Falcons leading scorer for the year, paced the balanced attack with 15 points, all from the floor as he totaled seven baskets, one a trey. Groves and Russell Burch each totaled 11 while Jayson Kincaid and Casteel chipped in with eight and five respectively. Marian’s Brendel was the game's top scorer, totaling 19 on eight baskets and three of four from the foul stripe. He had double figure help from Linski, but the overall balance of Marian wasn’t enough for the Knights to get the job done. In this game, there were only 25 total fouls whistled, just 21 free throws attempted as Glenn hit seven of eight and Marian 11 of 13 for the night. Defense does win games and it was obvious again Friday night that the charges of coach Mosson know how to play defense Boat LaVUle Friday Friday is Homecoming for John Glenn and the LaVille Lancers will invade the Falcons nest for the annual homecoming game. LaVille. while sporting a pretty good record this year, is not a powerful team, but over the years under coach Larry Radecki they have established a style of play that can often take a team out of their game and they have won some big games with this tactic. B-Team gametime is 6:30 Fnday night, a busy night for the Falcons at home.
